Guest guest Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 I saw Esther's post earlier, but I didn't see the rest of the posts until now. thanks for all the advice, admonitions, and alternate points of view. I'll talk to my husband about it and see what he thinks. I wouldn't wait longer than two years, and I'm not sure that I'd wait until two years anyway. Things are changing day by day, and I'm paying more attention to my toddler's behavior and idiosyncracies. Part of what bothers me is that every time I deal with specialists, it seems to be a two to three hour wait in their office for a fifteen minute consult that leads to more tests and no conclusions. That's a grueling ordeal for us both ..... what if I agree to the speech therapy session and it's another round of waiting with nothing much to show for it? Then I've also spent another $25 and parking fees for nothing and may be told " go see this person instead, have this test done, yes this is another fee, that's a separate billing, you need a referral. " That is part of my hesitation in getting the specialists involved ... the waiting, the expenses, the merry-go-round of doctors and tests and not being told why. It's not that I don't want to spend the money, but sometimes I don't have the money to spend ...... if we can work with her ourselves for a bit and I can educate myself in this issue .... maybe it turns out to be nothing - nothing lost. If it turns out to be autism, then I'll have educated myself about it before doctors and specialists start tossing around medical terms and treatments and labels. Don't mean to offend anyone, just stating my reasons why. regards, Kim --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Yahoo! Messenger’s low PC-to-Phone call rates. Quote
