My dd does not have Tourettes but did have a tongue issue caused by an atypical. (I can't remember which one now as she has been on so many.) Her tongue could not stop moving either. Stormy he was literally thrusting his tounge out to the point of opening his mouth as wide as he can and stretching it out so it practically hits his chin. Seroquel XR can cause tardive dyskinesia, a condition involving unusual and uncontrollable body or facial movements. The condition can become permanent (even if Seroquel XR is stopped). The best way to prevent it from becoming permanent is to tell your healthcare provider right away if you notice any abnormal movements (including abnormal movements of the tongue) while taking Seroquel XR. Another option is a DAN! doctor. There are dietary issues that can cause extreme movement disorders, neurological issues, PANDAS, Lupus, etc. Has he been ill at all recently? I know I have posted to you in the past about PANDAS, but not sure how you stand on that now. Has he had any illnesses lately? Can you rule out that does not have strep (does he get any physical symptoms with strep- if not, would your doctor swab him anyway?) I would just be suspicious of a child with OCD and ADHD that now has an onset of tics- suspicious that it could be PANDAS. He shouldn't have to suffer. Some tics can be painful. If you don't get anywhere with the psychiatrist, you can see a pediatric neurologist who will be able to treat it as well. Hope you can reach the doctor or pharmacist to see if you should reduce the Seroquel, wean him off, or switch meds...some option. But then, what if it's a tic?! I was thinking maybe he is getting sick and usually when he is, his OCD is horrendous. You may wish to go to www.lattitudes.com. A great immunologist can also help. I just feel that anytime something starts out of the blue, we should take it seriously for a time. Our lives are sometimes so strange, with children that have OCD, that it is sometimes hard to know when to react and when to simply accept. My daughter has now been diagnosed with PANDAS by 3 professionals (can you tell I was a little reluctant to accept?!) and her neurologist suspects that another autoimmune disease may also be present, so we are now seeing an immunologist. One of the early symptoms for Meg is stomach ache and nausea. It usually starts on the same day or within a few days of sudden onset OCD. They found that Meg also has Peptic Ulcers (she is only 8) and both the Neurologist and Immunologist feel that is a sign of inflamation due to auto-immune. So either related to the PANDAS or related to another auto-immune. We try very hard to keep the hassle for Meg to a minimum, while still trying to explore the issues. As I posted before , my son was fine until one day when he turned 5 and his OCD symptoms appeared out of the blue. He had strep a couple of months prior to that. He also had Lyme. My son had two tests for Lyme in June of this year. The first one came out positive(ELISA) and the second(western blot) negative.(usually it is the opposite) After I thoroughly researched Lyme I found that the LLMD's show you only needed certain bands to actually be positive for lyme. My son had these bands, but according to the CDC he was negative. I have an appt in January with a pediatric Lyme specialist in New Haven CT He is suppossed to be the best in the country. If they say he doesn't have Lyme, he doesn't have it, than we will go to the PANDAS route. I believe that although he has all the signs of PANDAS, he also never had " tics " in his life until after his last tick bite in April, and this is also when he began with the nausea and stomach problems.(which I realize can be strep) Crazy isn't it??????? That is so great you have a lyme specialist so close to you and I pray you can get this all figured out. The positives that I can see is that at least you know there seem to be real triggers for all of this. There are so many people who know of no triggers and feel so helpless. He's had more than his share of all this, in his short, young life, so far. <sigh> I also wanted to mention that my Dad had tardive dyskinesia, brought on by the usage of Risperadol (for dementia). His seemed to be involuntary. But, I suppose it could be different individually...Not sure. I hope you get some answers soon. How is he doing? Any more of those episodes? Minute clinics are small offices staffed by nurse practitioners who can diagnose ear infections, do rapid strep tests etc and prescribe antibiotics as needed. It's about $60 for the visit plus any prescriptions, which you can then have filled right there at the CVS pharmacy. We've used it several times when an ear infection or strep struck on a weekend or after regular doctors hours. I checked the website and the closest one is about an hour away.I am going to bring him to his doctor tomorrow. For some reason my son's rapid strep cultures always turn out negative, until after they are sent off to the lab, than they come back positive days later.
