Dr Schoen recently spoke with members of my local support group about the mission of Research Down Syndrome. He is a very nice man, and passionate about the work his organization does to help find ways to increase funding for Ds research.

Since the founders of the group cover all administrative costs themselves, 100% of all funds donated to this group go directly to fund research. I think that sometimes people don't donate  because we think that we can't afford to give much, so why bother? But every dollar helps, and no amount is too small. So please...if this is something that you are hoping will benefit your loved one in the future...donate now.

thanks.KathyR---------- Forwarded message ----------

Help Us Support the Exciting Breakthrough in Down Syndrome Cognitive Research.

Have you ever considered that there are currently treatments for depression, bi-polar syndrome, ADD, Asperger’s syndrome… medical therapies that truly improve the quality of lives for so many, but there are no such FDA approved pharmacological  therapies currently available to address the memory and learning challenges faced by individuals with Down syndrome?

 Well, consider this:

In the near future there may be medical therapies to improve memory and learning in persons with Down syndrome... therapies that might enable persons with Down syndrome to live more independently.

The reality is that the potential for a significantly brighter future for individuals with Down syndrome has never been greater.  As a result of the rapidly advancing area of Down syndrome cognitive research, some truly remarkable things are happening, such as the identification of potential medical therapies that could greatly improve memory, learning and communication in persons of all ages with Down syndrome.

Did you know that scientists are also finding associations between Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s disease which open promising paths of investigation for treating both Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s?

Increased media coverage about Down syndrome should remind us of the importance of Down syndrome medical research, such as in USA Today: “Down syndrome patients could unlock mysteries of aging “, and “Down syndrome caregivers face new challenges as they age.”

My name is Schoen, president of Research Down Syndrome. We are a non-profit foundation whose goal is to support these medical efforts and to broaden awareness of Down syndrome cognitive research well beyond the Down syndrome community- communicating new research and scientific breakthroughs, and encouraging people to spread the news and support this mission.  You can learn more on our website http://www.researchds.org and via our video http://www.youtube.com/ResearchDownSyndrome.

We welcome future supporters such as yourselves – because you can help us to continue these incredible breakthroughs. Please give a donation for this rapidly advancing research, because 100% of your generous gift will help enhance life opportunities those with Down syndrome.

Please forward this email to your friends or to anyone that might be interested in helping those with Down syndrome.  Thanks for your help!
