OK I never do anything to the kids that I would not do to myself. I

have been suffering from a sinus infection for weeks now, I also snore.

I am not a big person but my sinus situation is just like this.

So last night I rubbed vicks all over my feet and put on socks and

went to bed.

Voila! I did not snore, everyone slept. too funny. I feel better

today.

Too funny......

Hi,I've been reading all the vicks vapo rub stories and wish I had known about

it 2 weeks ago when had a horrible cold. But he has seizures so I google

everything before I try it and I found several articles about Vick's causing

seizures. Not sure if it means only if they ingest it or not because one said it

was from the fumes. Now I'm afraid to try it. I'm going to the neurologist

tomorrow and I will ask him and then let you all know what he says.Terry

Terry - please let us know what the neurologist says. It's " funny " cause I

googled it today - after I've used it, successfully, on her feet two nights

in a row - and read the same thing. I now feel as you do! It said it's the

camphor in the Vicks..but that there's only like 5.9% make-up of camphor.

Still, it's scary. A friend tonight said " well, as long as you don't put

lots on her feet I'd think it'd be okay " but I'm still concerned.

Oh - and I also went to www.snopes.com <http://www.snopes.com/> . It says

" undetermined " as far as whether or not it really works! Well, it's WORKED

for us..she goes to sleep with the " darth vadery " sound and wakes up clear -

she's NEVER done that before (usually is WORSE in the mornings)!

Kathy, I will definitely let you know. But I also heard from a lot of people in

my epilepsy group that lavender causes seizures in kids with epilepsy also.

Whether in sachets or lotions, etc. I had been using lavender baby wash on him

for months before I read that and he was fine. So sometimes I think it's just

what they are sensitive to and you have no way of knowing. I do avoid the

lavender now even though it never gave him a seizureĀ  even for myself as I sleep

with at night.Terry

Well I asked the neurologist today about the Vick's and I really like him and

trust his opinion. Believe me it took several tries to find a really great one.

Anyway he said that Vick's like any other cold medicine has the potential to

cause seizures but there is no scientific proof that it does. It's just that

there were reports of children having seizures when using these products but the

seizures may have been triggered by the illness and not the medicines. What he

tells all of his patients is that if the child really needs it to use it. A lack

of sleep is the biggest trigger for seizures and if they are up all night

coughing or congested they aren't going to get enough sleep. So he recommends

only using these things when they are really needed and not to use them

routinely.I guess that makes sense. So I guess I'll give it a try next time he

gets a cold.Terry

He is a great doctor. I'm so happy we found him. He also doesn't send us

for a slew of tests like most doctors. His waiting list is ridiculous though

because everyone wants to see him. I always trust what he tells us.Terry
