We also have the butt touching issue off and on. Much of it depends on how the behavior is addressed. Unfortunately some people think that giving a kid a lecture on inappropriate behavior is going to discourage the behavior. Not for . He needs a lack of reaction combined with intolerance for the behavior. Karyn **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. Dining, Movies, Events, News & more. We don't want him to become part of the juvenile justice system.>> Hi, Everyone....Annette....welcome to the group. My son is 20 y/o with the DS/Autism/OCD dx. One of the drugs that is on, the Adderall, made my kid schizo. Many of us have found that the stimulant drugs do the opposite for our kids. You are questioning whether he has autism.....is he also DS? If so, I don't think you have to worry about him being put in the JJS. It sounds like he needs an IEP update and behavioral program. Take care, Everyone. Margaret **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. Dining, Movies, Events, News & more. Guest guest
Adderall was good for only one thing for Elie - he lost 20 lbs while on it - and for him this was great. Didn't affect behavior however. As to butt touching. We did a social story - actually a few social stories which were read to him with words and PECS. We shake hands and give high fives. Butts are not for touching :`( Apples are for touching and eating. But butts are not for touching! :~( And so on - over and over. Eventually it worked - but approval is a big need of Elie's. We were about to go to his big contingency - Jr Frosty. But he finally got it and could tell other kids - Butts are not for touching. > > Posted by: " duffey48@... <duffey48%40aol.com> " _duffey48@...<_duffey48%40aol.com>_ > (mailto:duffey48@... <duffey48%40aol.com>?Subject= Re:%20Annette) > _duffey48 _ (http://profiles.yahoo.com/duffey48) > Sun Oct 12, 2008 10:32 am (PDT) > > Adderall was a nightmare with Maddie too. Guest guest
Hi Margaret, thanks for your 2cents. Later in the day, after the steam faded, I realized that I acted unfairly. I got a call late in the school day from the psych that she put a copy of his BIP in his backpack and also that he was having some issues. She didn't get specific, was within earshot, but he was making threatening remarks. She didn't call me later to fill me in on what was going on so I guess I will find out later. I called today and got an appointment tomorrow with a pedi. neurol. Someone had cancelled - I hope this is a prayer being answered, not sure if he will actually get EEG or whatever tomorrow. I am not sending him to school, we will just chill and go out for breakfast before appointment. He was very oppositional and defiant about not getting on the bus and going to school, I hope he is better in the morning. At least, for the most part our evening was not too stressful. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate this group and all the info - I will also be checking posts from a while back also. Thanks, Annette > > << So I followed through with what I told him I would do. Guest guest
Hi Annette, I am trying not to compare because all kids are different, however, if something isn't right at school Zeb will refuse to go and rant and rant. You really need to ask lots of questions and read between the lines. Zeb's school is not the most honest when issues arise and have escalated situations that could have been diffused with ease. I just get red flags when I read this post. You call it oppositional, I call it as asking for help in an uncomfortable situation. Like , he had the ODD label, too, and I was going nuts with his behaviors. After I was told that he had NO control over them, it was when I took the step back and realized that * I * had to control my own behaviors/reactions since I was the one who wasn't autistic. I thank God for the Risperdal that turned our lives around.....I am only sorry that it doesn't work for all kids. Like Charlyne said, why doesn't he want to go to school? We were in a horrible district at one point and the lies that came from them broke my heart when I realized I was punishing Gareth (at home) for something he didn't do (or they over exaggerated the situation).
