Dearest Dede:

It sounds like you have had every test that I have had. This should tell us something. They keep looking in the wrong places, and then they tell us that we are depressed. I had to ask to be tested for H-Pylori, and now they tell me that when you are positive that you will always be positive. A week ago, my doctor told me that he wanted to test me again for H-Pylori!

I do have a sliding hiatal hernia and would love to have it repaired, but no doctor would do this surgery on me. The same goes for having my capsule removed in my right breast. They think that because I am on blood thinners that surgery is not an option. The blood work is for the blood thinners, it must be done every few weeks. Please stay well, and thank you for the loving support that you give to us.

Sorry for venting, but I want my life back...sending love to you.....Lea

Re: Good news!

Goodmorning Lea ~

I am so sorry you are having such GI problems. I saw a GI man the end of January and had a endoscope and colonoscopy, had a large sessile polyp that was cancerous, and they did a biopsy in my stomach, and I did not have H pylori, which I was thankful for. I did have white patches in my stomach, I now bet it was yeast/fungus, as I royally flunked the spit test this morning. Anyway, he had given me donnatal to take for IBS, and I did take it for about a month 3 times a day, and it not only helped some, it relaxed the horrible spasms I was having due to the pain in my gut which just made the IBS much worse, but anyway, it helped with the restless leg syndrome too. The donnatal was almost like a godsend for me. I stopped it though as I am backing down on many of my meds as it just adds to my toxicity. I have been off the donnatal for a week now, and the lasix too, and my toxic level is better. I think the meds just keep you sick ! ! I believe everyone should have a PDR , I looked up all the meds I am on, and to my amazement, aspirin can cause gi bleed, false positive elevated glucose, it can increase some thyroid function tests and decrease others, and decrease WBC's and hemaglobin, and increase protein in your kidney functions. It can also decrease the effects of beta blockers ! ! I stopped the aspirin a year ago on a dailey basis, I only take one a week, then if I have a bad heart day, I take 2 of them.

The lasix that I stopped last tuesday has horrible side effects, one of which is pancreatitis, it also affects your blood tests it increases your pancrease enzymes, and your lipids, and sugars, uric acid and BUN. It can decrease your potassium, sodium, GTT(glucose tolerance tests) and decrease your thyroid (T3, T4)

So, no wonder all my testing comes out so wacky ! ! I completely stopped the lasix, and dont have any more fluid than I did on it. A matter of fact I have lost 2 lbs in a week. Sad to say, the doctors were keeping me sick by all these drugs ! ! I have had the pancreatitis about 5 times in a year and a half ! ! I bet it was due to the drugs ! ! ! ! ! Last tuesday when I decided to stop the lasix, I was also into about my 4th day of starting with the pancreatitis symptoms, it has now STOPPED ! ! !

So, what lab tests are you going to have today? What meds do they have you on? I would be happy to reasearch some things for you, just let me know. Stress + rotten implants = rot gut ! ! We will get you over this hump and get you to feeling better ! ! When did you have your implants out and what kind were they and were they ruptured? I am sorry I am being nosey, but that is just me "Nosey Rosey" hee hee hee......Be sure you always get copies of all your lab work and any other type of testing you have done. There are so many mistakes made, and you are your best docter, right along side God ! ! My thoughts and prayers are with you, and thank you for your kindness, and time you give me ! Love and hugs ~ Dede

Lea,

A friend was telling me today that after her hiatal hernia was repaired recently, her anemia went away.

The young surgeon who told her that would happen . .. Her doctor didn't believe him . . but he does now.

That's all great news littermate! I'm still waiting for word on my coverage.

They sent my paperwork back asking for more info (doctor's license numbers,

etc.) most of which was already on the forms I'd sent, but now I'm still

waiting. Filed an extension on my taxes-- it will make a huge difference, of

course, in how I file.

My hair dresser told me that I shouldn't lose any more! I just laughed at that

too. He remembers when I could barely squeeze into his chair. I'm down 112 as of

this morning.

Can't wait to see you this week! Are you going to the Friday night event too?

Hi Everyone,

Just checking in. I am 10 months out and just hit the Century Club!

I've lost 102 lbs. I had a lady say to me yesterday don't you ever

eat? How do you look like you do? I jsut laughed and told her my

story. It is so funny to hear peoples perceptions when they don't

know where you have come from. I shared about the mgb with her for

her daughter who is 100lbs over weight.

The other bit of good news! For those of you who know me, know I've

been battling with my insurance to cover the second time I was

hospitalized for pancreatitis and inflammed bowels. I finally got the

pre-existing condition from Aetna removed after two letters from the

doctor and they are starting to help with some of the bills on the

38,000 stay. I do not know how much they will cover on this but I am

ever so greatful to get some results finally. I am still working on

my St. Rose visit and am hoping to get that reduced so I can manage

this as well. I am starting to see soem light at the end of the

tunnel.

Can't wait to see all my skinny friends at the picnic!

Good News!

I just recieved good news. They have bumped my two test into one day

and that is tomorrow. My gastro doctor called U of M and told them that

I needed to be under for the scope. The last time I woke up in the

middle of it. So I will have my scope first (under anestesia sp.) and

then the monomitry. Hopfully I will be sleepy when they put that thing

down my nose. I am so happy that I don't have to wait a week to have

both tests done. So my parents and I are going down to the hospital

tonight so I don't have to wake up at 4 tomorrow morning. I am hoping

that this will speed up my surgery date.

Talk to you soon

I'm glad to hear that things are coming together. I had my scope last week and from my experience, you should be quite dopey when they do the second test. Remember, take care of yourself and the rest will fall into place. I'm still waiting to hear when my surgery will be. It's driving me crazy. I was implanted and activated about a month before you, and I am also

prelingually deaf. I never had any speech understanding with my one

hearing aid. I am also hearing very soft sounds, and the cadences and

tones of speech, but I just don't understand the speech yet other

than my name. I think you and I will take longer, as we have to learn

speech from scratch (unless you had at least some speech

discrimination with hearing aids). The brain also needs time to make

the new connections for understanding these sounds. So I am also

trying to be patient. It is difficult, because most people getting

CIs seem to be people who had hearing before, or more hearing, or

they are children. There don't seem to be many people in our precise

position (another person on this group in our situation is Chris).

Best wishes,

Kathy, my good woman,

You are right where I was a few weeks post activation. Hearing the

cadence of speech, but not getting the words. Like someone was humming

to me rather than speaking. And yes, this is good progress, especially

for someone who has been without hearing for ages. YEAH KATHY. I'll

even forgive her for razzing about lost batteries - which now has been

found, thank you! LOL.

I use a very slow processing strategy - SPEAK - and have great success

with it. So if ACE is too fast for you, join the laid back folks with

SPEAK. But, there are infinite adjustments that can be made, so enjoy

the journey and remember it's NOT a race.

If you get a book on tape and the book that goes with it, you can

listen and read along for help. Or watch TV and read the captioning,

although there is often a HUGE difference between what is said and what

is captioned. And often a time delay as well. I like the books. Just

stay away from children's books, because so many of the words rhyme. And

stay away from books where the narrator has an accent. Harry Potter

books, for instance, are narrated by a person with a British accent. I

personally don't have any problem with British accents, but East Indian

drive me nuts. And so many calls you make about computers, telephone,

etc. are answered in India where they have the accent I can't understand.

On the positive side, friends with typical (normal) hearing often have

difficulty with that accent. Let your librarian be your guide in getting

unabridged books that go with the books on tape.

Make sure you have the processor on every day as long as you are

awake, because when your brain " clicks " into " this is what things sound

like now " you need to be wearing the processor.

You don't need any of the special suite things yet, until you get an

open map you can use. Open means no other things set on it. Then maybe

start with telecoil and auto sensitivity.

Thanks for sharing your journey.

Hey All,

I've been reading and keeping up with the

conversations on this group. Battery info...battery

hunts, etc:) I just thought I'd give an update on my

progress so far.

I was activated May 16th and had my second follow up

yesterday. I described to my audie that I " m hearing

really soft sounds. ie. my oven timer, clock ticking,

dog panting, shoes scuffing, my tongue rubbing my

teeth, but not quite grasping speech. I hear the

pattern of speech ,but unable to get the word.

So my audie did a hearing tests and I'm not familiar

with all the numbers and meanings that some of you

guys use, but basically my audie said that I tested at

a normal level for the soft sounds threshold. Blew me

away!! I was like what?! HOwever, on all the speech

sounds...I failed each one she had me try to copy.

So, thus is consistent with what I was hearing.

Obviously, I " m still learning to recognize what I'm

hearing at the soft sound levels and they don't want

to increase the volume anymore cuz I'm hearing the

soft sounds. So they are trying a new stratgy that

was explained as a slower firing rate to see if I

understand speech better with it.

So far it still all sounds reallly soft, but maybe

with use for a week, I'll get something.

For those who don't know me, I've been profoundly deaf

since birth with bilateral heraing aids since age 3 (

I " m 30 now) I still wear one hearing aid. So alot of

what I'm hearing is new to me as I lost all my right

ear residual hearing with the pregnancy of my son.

So it's definitely hearing, but not completely making

sense yet. However it's good news and I " m hopeful

that the speech will come eventually!

Anybody have ideas how to work on the speech part? I

guess I " ll probably just keep plodding along till

something clicks.

No, specific programming yet as far as the whisper and

stuff yet.

I'll use any advice you can give!:)

,trying to catch up here - I am sorry you had the struggle with your insurance company, but am glad to hear things are now moving forward according to schedule (it's a shame they added to your stress about the situation...) Please be sure you try to take care of yourself during this time (easier said than done, I know), so you can avoid a flare. My prayers are with Rob, as well as you and hubby, and all of the medical staff. Is there a hospital address where we can send Rob a card? and ,17snooksmama@... wrote: The insurance company overturned their decision and approved 's surgery for this Friday, June 15.
