The LEA would only fund a place in this school the same as they would in any other independent, the difference here is it looks like an easier case to make for our kids who are already following healthy diets and biomedical approaches.

I would say these fees are too low and that they will go up quite a bit once the

school is established.

I'm also wondering what level of functioning they are aiming at with the employable theory?

The website didn't have much info on increasing communication skills, for a very severe child this would be crucial. Most independents are aimed at specific groups, ie Aspergers, severe autism etc, that in many ways is the attraction for parents. The problem with LEA schools is the one size fits all approach, because the very severe children generally end up in a generic SLD school with no intensive work on communication.

I couldn't really gather from the website how they would assess and teach the

children. OK, they are aiming at making them employable, but what does that

mean? Working on an ability to do repetitive tasks, perhaps? Or trying to

encourage acceptance of change and social skills?

Does that mean there won't be an emphasis on more " academic " stuff? I shall be

interested to hear how the school develops.

if my child was blind or deaf, but had the chance to see, i would want to send

him to a school where they would work on that - same for our kids who have the

label autism - school has to be wholistic with no agenda, employability or

otherwise.
