Guest guest
My name is Liz and our daughter Tori was dxd just before she turned 4 yrs. We knew, prenatally, that she was going to have DS. I was just short of 42 when I delivered her. I had my oldest when I was just short of 22 yrs old. This dx tore us to pieces but we forged ahead, learning everything we could about DS and greeted her with open-arms when she arrived on 2/23/00. In Sept., 2003 she was dxd with Autism (PDD-NOS)..this was the topping on the cake. We have forged ahead with researching this dx and joined this group which has been life saving to me!! We are so alike, yet so different.. We can share our triumphs and terrors, and understand where everyone is coming from. When your child scratches to see blood or someone's reaction, we know what it is like. When your child constantly bangs his/her head on hard surfaces, we know what that is like. When EVERYTHING goes in his/her mouth, we know what it is like. We are FAMILY. I started back to work last year part time and now work full time and enjoy MY time. I work with h.s. students with Autism, but I don't find it to be work. I do this day in and out and don't have to think twice about what to do. My DH commutes 200 miles a day to work.. because they don't pay you enough here to survive here. I will be 50 this year! WHOOPEE!!!! Anyway, DH doesn't see retirement coming for another 20 years, at least.. (He just turned 49). What I want to say, is Yes, Life sucks!!! However, we all survive and do what we have to for our kids! Welcome to our family! Liz
