I was invited by the MHRA, to contribute to the new PIL for Seroxat and strongly made this point. They took no notice and we, the patient reps were only invited for the look of the thing. They pay lip service to listening very often. However the recent agreement by the MHRA to review the drug Dianette (see article link below) has shown me the benefit of collecting personal experiences and sending them in to the MHRA. The patient reporting initiative is unfortunately poorly publicised (I can tell you more about this) I only sent in my reports to Wark when she agreed to look at them, as just sending in to a faceless organisation would be pointless. So if you collect enough of these reports via your forum we can discuss this way of making them listen. They know about the adverse drug reactions (ADRs ) but unfortunately it takes years to make any changes. Also the MHRA has conflicts of interests due to being funded mainly by the pharmaceutical industry. Did you find the informatio on the PIL as soon as you realised you had a problem?, did you connect the problem with the drug? did you stop the drug immediately? is impotency the problem for you, as some people suffer painful lengthy erections. I found out about this in the USA when speaking to lawyers who specialise in SSRI litigation, at an SSRI conference. Have you contacted Chales Medawar (see www.socialaudit.org.uk ) he is a formost campaigner in the harms caused by SSRI and similar drugs. He spoke at the last conference I organised and was featured in the Panoram programmes on Seroxat. There is also a forum attached to his web site. Where do you live? I would like to get together a group of people to help with a conference and wondered if you would be available to help. Conferences create waves and I was told by a leading mental health journalist that the conference I organised in 2001 led to the Panorama programmes. It was an amazing networking opportunity for the media, the doctors who care and the people who have been harmed, Healy was one of the speakers. Call me if you have time and we can discuss this. Or let me have your number. Let me know a convenient time to call you. Are you at work during the day? I am so sorry for your suffering and my heart goes out to you. I lost my daughter in 1995 due to the many psychiatric adverse effects she suffered due to a number of meds and anaesthetics. Then to the drugs used to treat the ADRs. The full story is on the Latest News page of www.april.org.uk the link to Guardian article is at the bottom of the page. Sorry the feedback form is not working , I have a volunteer helping me with a new format as we need to improve and define the information better. I also need to update and improve the web pages on antidepressants, we should identify the long term ADRs as well as the withdrawal and change of dose risks. If you know anyone who could help with that, we could then have a section on sexual dysfunction and point people to your forum. May I send on your email to a lady in Lancashire, who suffered from seizures due to prozac and in fact ran a support group and helped thousands, until her poor health prevented her from continuing. She was a journalist and I am hoping she will help me to write a book about the adverse effects reported to APRIL. This would be supported by people such as Professor Healy. Subject: PSSD Dear Sir/Madam I am a 28 year old male who became immediately impotent once i started to take Prozac as an 18 year old.Despite only taking prozac for about 4 months my sexual functioning has never returned.I never had any erectile problems prior to taking prozac and was in perfectly good physical health as i still am. When i initially reported this persistent side effect of prozac to my doctor in 1997 i was not taken seriously but told that my impotence was psychologically caused.I do not consider that i was ever seriously depressed and only first approached my doctor having been prompted to by my family. Ive since seen my medical records and my doctor did not even bother to note that the onset of my impotence was immediately after i began to take prozac ,two- three days later nor did he report it to the MHRA. My impotence has now been attributed to the prozac i was prescribed by consultant metabolist Dr Philip Lee and Professor C.J Fowler phD of University College London Hospital .This condition Post SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD) has now been documented in psychiatric journals, acknowledged by Antonei Csoka phD,Dr Stuart Shipko MD and Professor Healy frc Psych. Several hundred people have reported to be suffering from persistent sexual dysfunction of various forms as a result of taking SSRIs that has continued after stopping to take the drug .This can be seen at our support group - ssrisex I have reported this problem to the MHRA myself via the yellow card sheme.I did fill out the form attached to your website but unfortunatley it would not send. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- Sneak preview the all-new Yahoo.com. It's not radically different. Just radically better. DeleteReplyForwardSpamMove...
