My biggest excuse used to be..lack of motivation..Meaning I would say to

myself, especially if I didn't see results quick enough..that it just didn't

matter and wasn't worth the effort..boredom...But mainly in the past I would

restrict my diet way too much until I found I was tired, grumpy, and just

didn't have the energy...The best part now is that I am not living on lettuce

and cottage cheese..and I find that Taebo is a constant challenge and fun to

boot..It continually keeps my attention...for the first time in my life I am

also considering adding weights to my workout routine..I am eating

healthy..feel more energy and a brighter outlook on life...Lets face it..in

the past, like so many have mentioned..I could find 100 excuses not to

workout or eat right...the reality is we find time for things that we feel

are important...as a society we like the fast route...fast food..fast

travel..fast computers etc. Anything that takes our time and effort we tend

to shy away from..we want results yesterday and we want the miracle pill to

do it...we want to believe all the fad diets that are out there..and when

those fads fail us, we give up hope...I always look at it this way now..the

inches we put on didn't happen overnight, and the inches we take off will not

happen over night...I'm rambling on here but I think everyone gets the

general idea..Taking care of our bodies and souls needs to be looked at as a

lifetime committment...

this is a great explanation of the pre-Tae-Bo mindset many of us had

Maybe maturity plays a part in all of this too cuz the instant gratification

thing is more of an adolescent attitude? I mean to make fitness a permanent

part of our life style takes a mature commitment or realization

Also, and this is not to offend anyone, but I think the pressures on younger

women to be thin is greater than it is for women who are a bit older. I know

that all women feel the pressure to look good, but for younger women, who are

supposed to be in their " prime " (according to the modeling industry), the

pressure is really strong. Especially with the horror stories that it all

goes downhill after 30. That may play into why people want the quick fix. And

unfortunately a lot of younger women don't have the self esteem or wisdom to

deal with the pressure.

and after making babies

care of myself alot more than I did once I gave birth

oooops just reminded myself that the most immature attitude towards

exercising I ever encountered was on an aol board for folks over 50 so there

goes that theory shot to H_ _ _

That is what scares me. I am pretty young so I should have my " best " body

right now! I hope it gets better than this, LOL. I also have people telling

me that it should be easier for me to lose weight because I am " young " . You

mean it gets even harder???

My biggest excuse is not having enough time, and I use it for way

more than exercise believe me! But it is just an excuse that I've

proved to myself many times, in that if I get organised and 'pull my

finger out' I can get a lot of things done.

As for obstacles, yes there where many all the usual domestic,

social, lazy varieties flavours and/or combinations - but thanks to

the fact that I'd worked out extensively when in my early 20' I was

hoping that I could find the 'self motivating momentum' again.

I loved weight training and classes way back then, valued the

benefits it gave me esp the 'emotional' ones, in hindsight it was

probably a very 'internally calm' period of my life, and it was never

a problem to workout, in fact I MISSED it terribly if I truly

couldn't.

So I was lucky in that I'd 'got it' in the past, the search was on to

find it again, if I could re-capture that I'd never look back, and

certainly not let life intervene again, this determination was

fuelled by having suffered injuries too, many of you know what that

effect can have.

It's only with being able to do TaeBo this year (cos it wasn't

available before) that I've 'got it' again, where working out gathers

it's own momentum and to some extent becomes self motivating, that's

the only way I can explain it, and I feel it's more than an

addiction.

The weirdest thing is I'd never even consider working out at home to

any other videos because I simply couldn't get into it.

I do know that one major thing that's helped keep that 'momentum'

going has been being a part of this group of remarkable people, being

able to talk about TaeBo and other things in our lives, having

support and simply someone to be 'there' no matter the physical

distance.

What is it about the number 30 that just causes our bodies to stop responding

as well as they used to?? LOL! I'm 31 and am having a harder time losing

weight this time around. My boss keeps telling me that " as young as I am, I

will be in great shape in no time " . Yea, right! If it gets worse as we age,

I'm in serious trouble! :-)

opinion. I'm 40; 's in her 40's and is 30. And you saw Irene,

Debi and at the WTC, all of whom are in their 40s. Do I need to say

more? We have challenges all through out our lives. Maybe it will be harder

to lose a pound in your 30s or 40s, ... , but beauty is more complex than

that.

I don't mean to discourage you, , but once you hit your 30's

it's all over as far as weight loss goes!

Ann Marie - who's in her early 30's and having a heck of a time with

weigh-loss this go-around!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news..and I truly can only speak for

myself..but most of my HS years and beyond I could eat about anything and

stay the same weight...then later 20's after the birth of my daughter, I had

a hard time getting rid of the weight..thats kinda around the time I

developed my eating disorder, however, that was a whole combination of

things..anyways..when I got married 2yrs ago I was back in good shape..not

really working out much so I was probably a skinny fat

person..meaning..Little scale weight, but no tone or muscle really..and after

getting married the weight started creeping on..I had to really start

watching what I was eating etc..and became very aware as my jeans started to

get progressively tighter...It has really been the Taebo that has gotten me

back on track and opened a new world of combining healthy eating habits and

workingout to feel better..In my opinion (which is very humble) I would say

it gets harder as we get older..but, I've seen alot of really good looking

older women actually in better shape physically then I was when younger...

Barb,

This is also a reason behind frustration and giving up on weight

loss. We know we're working against an uncontrollable force, so

human nature would make one want to give up more easily. We can't

stop our bodies from going through these changes at that certain

point in life. It's like swimming against the current. On the other

hand, if taken slowly and steadily, a person can stay ahead of the

tide, or at least try to keep up with it.

I work for a lady in her mid 50's who works out at a gym for one hour 3 times

a week. She looks incredible and is in much better shape than I am at 31.

This is not something she's done all her life either. So, it does happen for

people over 30 :-)

I really envy women like Joyce Vendral and Powter who caught the

fitness bug later in life. They inspire me and make me think maybe, just

All I can do is laugh and shake my head...you just don't know what you are

in for!!!!! 30 and even 40 would still be great...the ole bod really shuts

down in the next half century...you will be wishing you could be 31 again!

Joya....bones creaking, gravity doing its thing...wish I had started Tae Bo

in my thirties!!!! Where were you ?????????

Hey -

Please don't be scared. I personally believe that with all the Tae

Bo you do, there is absolutely no reason to not believe that the best

body of your life is in front of you.

I just turned 29 and was scared to death that I was in the last year

of the " best " time of my life bodywise. Then I really began to

notice that my body looks a hell of a lot better than it ever did

through most of my twenties. I may not be quite as thin as I was

when I was 20, but my muscles are more noticeably toned now then back

then and the way I look at it, as I keep on going down the Tae Bo

road, sooner or later I will be just as thin or thinner than I was

then AND I will have some sexy muscles as a bonus.

If you ever doubt you can't have a great body after 30, check out

that actress -Teri Polo- who is that new Ben Stiller movie " Meet the

Parents " . She is 32. I've been a huge fan of hers since I first saw

her when she was like 25 or 26 in the TV show Northern Exposure.

IMHO she looks better now then she did then!

they've had some time to learn how to become 'comfortable in their

Maybe I spoke to soon...I just read the rest of the post regarding

this subject and it would seem that all the over 30 people would

probably say I'm full of S**T. LOL! :-) Maybe I better just wait

until I turn 30 before I speak, 'kay? But, I still will say attitude

is everything! :-)
