I think it's human nature. My fiance can run like nobody's business. VERY fast. I felt bad for a while, but I realized I'm a much better sprinter and I have the coordination to do Tae Bo. He looks like somebody poured something down his shorts the way he skirts around with no control or balance..whatsoever who is finding she and Elena have alot in common

My story is almost exactly the same... I was slim before meeting my fiance 6 years ago, and slowly put on the pounds as I was influenced by his lifestyle (sedentary and junk food). This is too cool!!! Welcome to the group and also Jeannie!!!
Guest guest
Hi, I'm fairly new to the goupr and thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Jane and I have one son (11) with mild autism/ADHD. I have two step kids, one with borderline MR (13) and the other with nvld, and mild CP (8). I'm interested in teaching the kids social skills. I haven't been too happy with the books or videos I have seen and am wondering if anyone knows of some great teaching tools, or of classes in MN. I live in south central MN, but go to the twin cities often. Thank you, Jane

Guest guest
Welcome Jane! I'm here in East Central MN...but haven't lived in MN but for maybe going on 4 years now. Since I'm not sure what you've had access to, or tried getting info from any of these.... I'll throw some of this out here, even for other that may be interested. Autism Society of MN is having the 2004 MN Autism Conference called 'Expanding Horizons' from April 28 - May 1, 2004. Suppose to be able to sign up for the session you want or attend the whole thing. Lots of great resources, speakers and Exhibits. Might find some good things there. (Jerry Newport is the key speaker on May 1st) Over all the AuSM can hook you up on their mailing list for all kinds of workshops, conferences and camps for kids with Autism. *I've attended 2 now, they are very informative* Phone for AuSM is 651- 647-1083. Pacer of course has workshops throughout the year on different disabilities; plus the Simon Technology Center. You could maybe go to the STC, have an AT assessment done... they have a Software Library there that you could 'try out' some of their programs for Social skills etc. http://www.pacer.org LinguiSystems has various board games that we found helpful in addressing Social Skills with my guys... fun and learning usually is less 'painful' http://www.linguisystems.com The ones we use with my youngest is the Know the Code. " Know the Code " behavior cards we found through attainment Company, *another great program resources* http://www.attainmentcompany.com Other than that we have my kids involved with a company here that has staff that teach independent living skills and have a social skills group every week. There are two company's that we use. One is Provide Care inc. and then Generations, Inc. Generations I know has an office in St. as well as up here in the Central MN. Good luck, and welcome to the group! DES aka Joyce Mom to 3... 2 still at home. Age 20, 14, and 11 (all quite special)
