Guest guest
I admit right up front I actually know little about the “no child left behind” law, but two close friends are teachers and they both say it is an impossible dream because children do not learn in the same way at the same time in the same amount….we can’t “create identical IQ’s for each kid” they say. They said it wouldn’t be long before all of the schools in the nation would be not meeting the requirement, and thus, taken over by the federal government (which is the threat supposedly). Maralee In the Chicago 'burbs, where Spring is just around the corner! (I hope) ] Fw; AWAKe;Schools on military bases are exempt from the No Child Left Behind law Interesting. So because we are military and many of our kids go to school on military installations then it's ok for our kids to be " left behind " , because the schools get the federal funding? Hmmmm well now, that raises yet another question.....what about the schools our(military) kids attend off post and because they do the schools qualify for extra funding thru the federal government? Does that mean those schools are also exempt for the NCLB law? MISSY SAHM to some special kids!!! Excuse Me While I Go Raise Tomorrow's Future. Guest guest
Your'e right Maralee. I have a friend I have knownfor 12yrs and she has been teaching all but 3 of those years. We have had many discussions about NCLB and your'e right--it is basically in unattainable goal. No 2 kids learn at the same rate or the same way. MISSYSAHM to some special kids!!! Guest guest
IMO, it is a Republican answer to “dealing with education” and their solution to the fight over vouchers for private schools. If the schools are found incompetent, the district will have to provide vouchers for students to go to private schools, tutoring (Sylvan, etc.) and more. I’m a Dem, can’t you tell? Guest guest
LOLOL Nothing wrong with being a Dem, lolol. I have yet to see the voucher system at work here. The kids that were in failing schools last year had the option of being moved to a thriving school. Other than that I haven't talked to anyone who was able to attain a coucher of help with out of school tutoring. MISSYSAHM to some special kids!!! Excuse Me While I Go Raise Tomorrow's Future. Guest guest
Not yet, but if you read the whole law, you’ll see it is coming. Schools are given a period of time to correct their actions and districts can certainly allow students to attend other schools (if there is space) if their school is failing. After a few years of failing, though, the vouchers will come.
