Guest guest Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Hi Sherrill, My primary occupation is teaching private music lessons (French Horn). I've been doing it for over 15 years and make most of my income that way, along with teaching Horn sectionals at 2 of the area high schools, about 5 hours a week. My other job I've been doing since '93, and I make archery bowstrings. I learned to do it from my brother-in-law, who had his own small company. 2 years ago, I took over the company and and am now trying to make it grow from a small side business, to a larger part of my income. I am not an archer, at all, so it's a little funny. I sell mostly to bow makers, who sell their bows with my strings on them. These are for traditional archery (longbows and recurve bows) not compound bows with pulleys and such. Now that the kids are school age, if I teach a full schedule (3-7 Mon. - Thurs.) I don't get to spend nearly enough time with the kids. Making bowstrings is much more flexible in time, and I can do it when the kids are at school or in bed for the night. The hourly pay is about the same for both jobs. Good luck!! What kind of business are you starting? Casey, mom to (DS) and , 6 Quote
