Guest guest
HI. I have the OPPOSITE problem. Skylar is in 3rd grade in a special ed school and he gets about 10 minutes of homework about 1 or 2 times a week. I've asked his teacher for a little more cause he'll do work if its assigned from school but for me to get him to do it is hell. I've managed to get him in a little routine that if it isn't work from school he will get a book an read to me. Usually one of the Golden Books for little kids but it has helped to improve his reading skills some. Sky just wants to race thru everything and get it done so we end up battling about the writing. I make him fix a letter or two but try to keep things from exploding to much. Just now he came to me and told me he was gonna write a story for his reading teacher. I almost fell off the chair. He NEVER wants to pick up a pencil. So far he has asked me to spell a couple of words so we shall see where this is going. I think it was not that she wouldn't I think it was that shecouldn't. She went to a christian school with strong academicexpectations, so she had homework even starting in K-1st grade. So for 7years we did that. Now in the spec ed school...no more homework! Ever! And I am so relieved. It wasn't ever homework for her but homework forUS. I went through a ton of that too Maralee. It was not until this year in the winter that my son , now in 9th grade, actually does not care to have me there. He hates it, so he will do the hours of homework, in his room, without me, just so I wont be there as he does not want my help. I do have to help him on some things and I do quiz him for tests and things. However, this finally gives me some time to myself. I had no time when I would help him. I had to eventually get to sit with me and I had to help him get the work done sitting by his side. I am so glad that he gets the work done without complaining but it took a while to get to this point. in IL
