Be reminded that Klonipin/Clonazepam is a habit forming controlled

substance. Not something that should be loosely prescribed. There are many

meds out on the market that can be used for anxiety and irritability, even

agitation and aggression, that are not as dangerous as something like a

benzodiazepine. I didn't see if you said what kind of doc prescribed this

med, but if I were you, I would be looking into a behavior specialist, such

as a board certified child psychiatrist if I were you. Good luck in finding

the right formula. Sometimes it can take many trials and errors.

up... also known as Clonazepam. *that one rang a bell from a friend

of mine*

two thoughts....

I know that this other person's daughter took it and had an increase

in depression. *not sure if thats classified as an adverse reaction*

but also... when my son gets 'drowsy' effects; he cries more.. loses

his temper more etc. His anxiety level actually goes UP when

he's 'over sedated'. STRANGE but true.

fine line.. balancing act for sure.

My 15 year old dd

(as/social anxiety) is having a really hard time lately. I’ve noticed

more anxiety and more trouble getting to sleep in the past 2-3 months so we

started this new med, Klonopin, on Monday. Well,

starting last week I noticed she was acting depressed and crying and this week

she is really having trouble. Lots of crying and she says she doesn’t

know why! She’s only been on the pill 3 days but I wonder if it’s

related. But we did notice the crying even last week before we added the pill. Hmmm.

I’m calling the psychiatrist tonight

to leave a message about it. I had to go get her at school today at noon because she was

upset there. She says she is getting angry at people really easily too and

doesn’t understand why.

There’s always a challenge, isn’t

there?

Thanks, Leah. We have been working with a board certified child

psychiatrist for 7 years. His file on Beth is about 6 inches think now.

We trust him. We've tried many meds in those 7 years...some have

worked; some haven't. You're right; it certainly does take trial and

error.....

Well, we had a major meltdown tonight with my dd (15/as/social anxiety).

We tried a new medication on Monday--Klonopin (Clonazepam) and it's

really taken her for a loop.DEPRESSION city. She's been crying all week,

and doesn't even know what she's crying about! And she gets " ticked off "

at her friends and everybody about everything.and doesn't know why

either. I think it's so interesting that she realizes this about

herself. She really surprises me sometimes. She's allowed me to hug her,

kiss her on the top of the head, tell her I love her, SEVERAL times this

week.I'm just loving the nurturing she's allowing me to do. I NEVER EVER

get to do that for her normally. We had a big meltdown a little while

ago that led me to page her psychiatrist. She is looking forward to

valentine's day tomorrow with her boyfriend. She bought some special

nail polish and stars and jewels to stick to her nails.then she kept

blowing it and kept getting madder and madder. She wanted me to braid 4

little strands of hair so it would be curly tomorrow morning when she

unbraided it.she thought that would look cool. I did 3 and got

distracted with dinner and didn't get the 4th done and that was about

the time she messed up her nails for the 3rd time and that just DID it

plus I hadn't done the 4th braid yet.she was over the edge, slamming

doors, broke her cabinet in her room, throwing stuff,

SCREAMING..threatening her life..f this f that...over the edge.out of

control. Scary when she gets irrational like that. Nothing I said helped

one bit yet she kept screaming at me.not really meaning to blame me but

I'm the one to always 'get it.' Lucky me.. She said you better call the

doctor (psychiatrist) or I may be killing myself..etc. So I thought it

might be " good " to page him..sigh..

He called me back and needless to say, we're stopping the new med. Some

of this had started last week though so that is the part that is

confusing. Her period started this morning too so throw that in the mix.

AND..her teacher is out of school for surgery--has been gone 3 weeks

already and may not come back this school year I hear-- and she can't

stand the substitute and that is HUGE stressor in her life. She doesn't

make transitions well AT ALL. Plus the relationships.boyfriend,

girlfriends.DRAMA all the time...yep. Yep. Yep. Very challenging.

The dr is prescribing a different anxiety/sleep med....remeron....I

think I've heard some of you talk of it. So we'll see if that works

better.
