I almost went into the officer program out of high school, but my physicals didn't go well because of a heart murmer. They were about to let me slide by when my brother enlisted. I couldn't do that to my poor mother, so I said " maybe later " . My brother got the run around on everything and missed the birth of two of three of his children (only because of training exercises) and got paid didley compared to what he was promised. Now I'm marrying a marine officer, and I know officers have it a little but bette,r so I'm relieved but well aware of the turmoil ahead. I just have difficulty at alot of his events, because a part of me still really wants to be in the military despite the definite hardships. I think if the acting thing doesn't hold up, then I'll really start practicing my flute with a vengeance and try out for the Marine Band ( I can satisfy two desires at once with no boot camp). So ANYWAYS...what I'm saying is I really admire what you are doing. I know women in the military have a difficult time, I hear some of the guys talk (complain) constantly. I really think it's that their precious manhood is threatened and everytime a woman screws up or lags behind, they are made an example of. But what guy could take care of two children by himself and me in the military? Just remember when you are running those laps, that a lot of people who don't even know you admire you.
