Guest guest
<<For any that may have their child on meds for OCD would you mind sharing what med and how its going. This is a big issue for us at the moment.>> Hi, Everyone....Christie.....I reply by highlighting, copying, and velcroing onto a new letter. That way I can respond to many posts at once and not each one individually. I'm lazy, like that!!! Anyway....Gareth has been taking SSRI's for his OCD. He's pretty bad when not on meds, too. The best for him is Luvox....50 mg each am and pm. When it stops working, we switch him to Lexapro or Prozac. Prozac is the least effective. The problem with Gareth is that the SSRI's stop working after a period of time and we can't ever raise the dosage because then it's too much and the negative behaviors come back, hence the switching of meds every 9, 12 or 18 months. Many of us have found that our kids are very sensitive to drugs, so we all recommend that you 'start low and go slow' on dosages, etc. Jayne....you're posts sound sooooooooooo happy and upbeat !!!! So glad for you but don't envy the move at all. Memories.......When Gareth was in the school district from h#** (grades 1-3) they made over a very, small hall closet to be used for 'time out' for Gareth in 1st grade. Supposable, his aide (from h#**, too) was with him the whole time. The S*@## hit the fan when I wrote a letter to the editor of the paper and the superintendent and school board members read it!!! The school's justification was that he had to stay in there till he calmed down and complied to educational requests. The room made him into a raging animal instead and they would call me to come and get him. Your lucky your child can tell you about it. I found out by accident when Gareth got suspended for slugging the Principal in the face while 4 of them were carrying him downstairs to the 'Time out' room. I 'high 5' Gareth for hitting the Principal that day........oh, well!!! It was YEARS before we could use the words 'time out' without him freaking out!!! Now we will say 'you have to take five' to get him to sit and calm down. Take care, Everyone. Margaret
