Guest guest
Cyndi: I had an experience at a local hospital about 3 yrs. ago with Tori. She slammed the back of her head on the driveway (asphalt) and never flinched, the next night she slammed it on the floor at school. On the way to class (I was taking a night class) after the visit at the school, she went unconscious in the car. I had to pull over on the highway and wake her up. She did this 2 more times before I got to the hospital. The Dr. on duty (who I have seen before) came in, said she would order a CAT scan and start an IV...which was fine with me. Tori was so out of it. She was quite lethargic and I told the Dr. this is definitely not my kid. She checked her eyes (well, she had 5 operations and they are not normal in any way, shape or form), and felt her head. Well, hello dummy-her head is misshapen. Anyway...20 min. passed by and a nurse came in and told me she was giving me discharge instructions! I said " What? " When the dr. came back in, I asked her about the IV and CAT scan and her exact words to me were " Well, if she falls asleep and doesn't wake up, bring her back! " HELLO!!!!! If that happens, SHE IS DEAD and we'll need the funeral home. I picked Tori up and walked out. Fortunately, Tori was ok..but definitely had a concussion. I immediately reported this idiot to the state AMA board...and she has been investigated. Once this is solved for you, do the same. We CANNOT let these people get away with treating people with special needs this way! Guest guest
Liz, I reported this internally to the hospital and I will let the state no. Who exactly do I report this too? I am so glad Tori was alright. They say bring these children into this world there is help out there. Well where are the professional that are supposed to help all of us. Today I took back to the Ped and he said he believes without a doubt that something bit and it got infected. His eyes are open wider today and the black/purple is going away. But while we were in the Peds office had a BM with blood in it for the first time. The Ped said could be connected let him no if he is still doing or does more by Monday. I do want this to go away but I just want the Doc's to remember want they learned in Med school and not forget something else that this could be. I know I have been on WebMD and it has helped me every time. Thanks Cyndi > > Cyndi: I had an experience at a local hospital about 3 yrs. ago with Tori. Guest guest
Carol & Sherry, My husband had typoid fever in 2003 and would have died if I had taken the advice of the hospital.Derby Day I took him to the ER and they said we are not sure but we think he has menigitist or hepatist but it is very treatable on the outside and they released him from the ER.On Monday I took him to an internist and he was spiraling downward, blood pressure dropping and he would have died if this Doc had not found what was wrong with him.Thank God for this Doc because she would not give up. My mother had Lung Cancer and they were 95% sure quote unquote they could take out her lung and she would be fine. Wrong again. My mother was dg in Nov and died in Jan 2months latter. That is why I keep pushing till I find out what is wrong. More than one opinion never hurts but it can save a life. Guest guest
Charlyne, I felt a little better today is looking better. We went to see the Ped that I saw on Monday and he said is responding to the meds.He firmly believes that something bit on the scalp because of a scab and originally he had a severely red goose egg.He gave eye drops, and zertec today. The eye doc also believes that had a cut or a bit and the infection went down into his eyes and face.I was feeling better and then had a BM with blood in his stool. The doc said this can be normal but if he does more and keeps doing this let him know.I just want this to go away I am soooo stressed now I am having migraines. Thanks for asking Cyndi > > Hi Cyndi, > Regardless if they think did this himself the dr's should be checking to see if any damage was done, come on. I know your doing everything possible on your end with whom you have to work with. How is he today? Guest guest
<<while we were in the Peds office had a BM with blood in it for the first time. The Ped said could be connected let him no if he is >> Sheesh, the first time had a BM with blood in it they rushed her to the ER than admitted her to the hospital- they did labwork and found her red blood count was seriously low and she had to have two transfusions. Now hers was real black blood so we knew it was coming from deep inside. If his was red maybe they're waiting to see if it's just from straining or something. But I certainly hope someone does some labs on him. Had he had any done recently since he's been going thru this? Sherry
Guest guest
<<e wont even sit on the dr's talble in their office because of the crap he has had to go through with doctors, and he wanted to start an iv and give the versed that way, and we were like cant do that what would be the purpose of sedating and calming if you going to do what really upsets him and what were trying to avoid anyway-->> I hear ya on this a... still freaks out if she has to get on the table at the docs office. They try to do everything they possibly can while she's in her stroller. Actually she freaks whenever we try to lay her down on her back for anything. So many traumatic bloodlettings with 6 people holding her down. Yuk. Sherry
Guest guest
Us nurses see things many times and often put bugs in doc ear to help, but not allowed to actually dx or order or tell people what to do that isnt a order but i can explain, there is another nurse or two on this list too i do beleive. A cbc isnt a blood culture, look at his labs (you are allowed by right) there should be somthing about a culture, and if anything was found eg:gram negative rods etc,-- his cbc would tell you if his white blood count was elevated hence an infection, if really high needs to be ona atb, most all labs also do a " c & s " for culture and senstivity ---this is when they take the blood culture and try tiny amounts againts many of the commonly used meds (atb) for it, to see what it is sensitive to, so the doc can prescribe the med to kill off the bad bug. As for the temp, it is different for different hospitals/ and people, for the elderly if they run a low grade temp of 100, that is very significant as they usually run lower as one gets older, but for a child a temp of 100 doesnt get the docs too worried. At our hospital we often dont give an antipyretic (fever) unless the temp is 101 or greater. AS our body uses its temp to make more wbc's to fight off infection, which is normal and especially today with soo much resistence the docs try to let the body do its job. As for the cellulitis some have temps and some dont, depends on person, the blood culture usually show whats going on. I hope i explained this right, please any other nurse chime in. shawna _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected? Guest guest
shawna,Thanks for your expertise. I am not really sure what kind of blood test they took at the hospital. I do not not if it was a CBC or Blood Culture.I know they took the blood his IV pick and that was it.Today 's right eye started to swell a little again and I called the PEds office. They called back with this is all trauma induced and the Ped would see him if I wanted him to. I called a neurologist office that the Peds office called last week. I explained I am not trying to get examined for Autism he has something very serious going on with swelling of the head and face. The neuro's office said have your Ped call and speak directly to the neuro. Then they will make an appointment. How do you ever get a true second oppinion if all these docs discuss your child with each other? One Physician is telling another Physician what his thoughts are aboout what is going on with your child.Cyndi > > Us nurses see things many times and often put bugs in doc ear to help, but > not allowed to actually dx or order or tell people what to do that isnt a > order but i can explain, there is another nurse or two on this list too i do > beleive. For years, Maddie never got fevers, even when my other 4 were getting off the charts (close to 105) with strep. Whenever she's gotten one, it's been low grade, so I pay attention.
