Guest guest
Oh Cyndi -- What a totally frustrating experience for both you and !! I'm sorry you had such a bad day. My son, , would have been the exact same way -- he would have had to have been sedated also. Did the hospital admit that you were right?? How is today? patty
Guest guest
Cyndi from one to another ... I FEEL FOR you!!!!! Honestly.... i been hestiate to post any place but we are going through somethig similar with Dayton (8yr,DS/Autism) Thursday will be 3 weeks ago he got up from playing..middle of the room with a limp. He sits on the floor and litterally loose his balance. Sorta of like a stroke person. WELL after going to the PED, NEURO, BONE DR and LAB and X-rays... Guess what.. you got.. NOTHING SHOWING UP!!! What... I am lost... the neuro in no hurry to do a MRI.. set a month off.. The EEG(yep think he having seizures too)...... set after the MRI like 5 days LATER!!! Well as of last friday till now... he walks HOLDING his left leg and tears in the eyes.. I am pumpng him with motrin hope it helping but I know it really not. We are to see a PED bone dr on the 17th.. UGh... I know IF I TOOK him to the ER at Children's 3 1/2 hrs away.. we would be admitted for unknown reason and Dayton would rip a new hole in everyone @$$ because he will not tolarate a IV but will a shot... even blood work.. he can do.. of course take nearly 3-4 to hold him. X-rays are next to impossible.. took 5 of us.. to hold him for hip x-ray... UGH.. So wish I could tell you what to do.. because.. I AM RIGHT WITH YOU!!!!! So come to south GA.. we can cry together... , mom to 12yr(DS)..Dayton 8yr(DS,Autism) 4yr(DS) I Hate Hospitals I hope everyones 4th was better than mine.I had to take to the hospital. When he got up this morning he looked like Rocky Balboa after a boxing match and he could not open his eyes.Yesterday I took him to the doctor because his forehead was swollen and the doc said he thought had cellulitis.I read on web md this can be caused by a mosquito bite, etc.The Dr. thought a bug bit him on the head, cause impetigo and went into cellulitis.Yesterday the Doc put him on augmentin for the cellulitis and bactraban for impetigo.I was so scared when I saw today because he could not open his eyes. On web MD is said cellulitis can go into meningitis.I got to the hospital at 10 a.m. was seen by a Dr. by 11:30 am.The Hospital Doc wanted to do a CT scan to rule out infection and breakage of a bone. Also they wanted to give and IV and I said you will have to totally sedate him or he will rip out the IV.The hospital gave my son ADAVAn which made him hyper and he did not go to sleep.I keep stressing you need to totally sedate him.So they gave him versaid but still he did not go to sleep. When the IV was to go in they were supposed to give him more meds in the IV well he got nothing. I was livid. I talked to the ER and the Main nurse and maid DR and they assured me they would sedate him. Wrong. Do these professional not know that we know I children better than anybody? The CT scan nevertheless did not give them a full reading because he would not totally go to sleep and lie still. These professional know that for a CT scan you have to lay still and yet they thought they would get a reading anyway. Well after being there at 10a.m. and checking out at 6:30p.m. the docs still were not sure maybe my son hit his head and that is a possibility with being violet it's just I never saw him hit himself so hard he could have done this to himself.Today was a wasted day at the hospital. Guest guest
Hi Cyndi, I don't like them either. We have a children's hospital fairly close by and they are no better. Our pediatrician is very good so I always contact her first before going to a hospital. She can call ahead and give the dr's a heads up. Is any better today? I would contact your pediatrician. I know they are supposed to put in some deprivan or something after the versed to knock them out totally but for a short time. We had the opposite problem last time actually, they gave versed first (liquid) then deprovan to knock her out for ear surgery. She came off of the deprovan easily enough like usual but they gave her way too much versed and she was unconscious for hours and hours. It was so scary. But at least now " I " know so I can tell the docs next time and they'll listen to me RIGHT??? Noooooooo. So sorry you had to go thru this! Guest guest
Liz, Great Idea. I did call the administrative office this morning and the person I need is out of town. I never thought of resporting them to the state. His eyes are open this morning but I can tell he is in pain. His eyes are so black he looks like Beatle Juice.I have an eye appointment, and I am trying to get him into a neurologist. Thanks for asking. I saw the pictures from the picnic and I hated it we could not be there. I cried when I saw everyone. How is everything going with you and your hospital stay? Guest guest
Dear , My son had a therapist that stood him up to a chair at 2 yrs of age to teach him how to stand. Her words " I let go of him to teach him the consequences of falling " . Guess what he broke his leg. I took him to the ER and they though he was constipated, even though they took and x-ray.I knew something was wrong with his leg and I took him to a bone specialist and he had a hairline crack in his left leg.I put him in the tub and I had my daughter entertain him and when I got to his leg he would scream. That was before we went to the hospital er.You know your child better than anyone if you feel something is wrong find a new doc, sports medicine,a better bone specialist.Maybe his leg went to sleep and when he stood up he broke something or sprained something. My son did not learn to walk until he was 5 yrs old because of his leg because even after his leg healed he would not crawl or try to stand on his leg. We went through and EEG with a total sedation because someone at the hospital looked at for 1 minute and thought they could do an EEG without sedation, and they were wrong. Now the person that thought the EEG could be done without sedation worked in sedation and not in the EEG dept. Why do we have to be so pushy to get the right help for our kids? You are entitled to a second, third or whatever opinion so keep pushing. Thanks for letting me know I am not alone. Guest guest
charlyne,I took to an eye Doc that thinks had a cut on his head that got infected and he said the bloodwork they did yesterday would not show an infection of the soft tissue. He dialated 's eyes and said his eyes are okay. I have to let him know Friday how is doing if swelling is gone but eyes are still black. In rare cases of children ages 1-3 yrs old sometimes kidney stones or problems can cause the eyes to do something similar. is 11 so he does not think this will happed to but if things do not clear up he will check for this. Guest guest
Charlyne, The therapist went bye bye and yet she called me crying and wanted to know why I did not want her back. I called several attorneys and no one would take this cause or if the company did not offer to pay our medical expenses. What a joke. Guest guest
Sherry, is on an antibiotic and the eye Dr. I took him to said if he nots better on Friday call me. Monday was the peditrician,Tuesday the hospital, Wed the eye Dr., today Thurs. the heart Dr, and tommorrow the Ear,nose, and throat. They think he has cellulistis and that can go in minigitis.I am tired and I know I am not spelling correct so forgive me my brain is not working. had RSV when he was a baby and I took him to the Doc everyday for a week and finally they hospitalized him.The Doc that was seeing him did not know it was RSV. Finally another doc in the group saw him and said it was RSV.You are right some Dr.s have very little bedside manor and little concern. One ear, nose, and throat Doc waited until we had had 4 office visit and one for a sleep study and then told me he would feel more comfortable if I took my son to someone on staff and the hospital. What a waste of my time. How long ago did she have the multiple pneumonias? Cyndi > > Hi, > > It is such a shame this subject is a common thread for our children. > > Long story short, my daughter has had multiple pneumonias, which actually > occurred when the pediatricians told me, she's just fine, sounds great, keep > doing what your doing! Guest guest
Johanna had a total of eight before she turned five. She is now on IV IG for primary immune deficiency disorder. It is the start of her second year and she gets them monthly. A lot of the problems were her illnesses combined with the ignorance of pediatricians, er docs and her specialists. They never heard her wheezing, she never ran high fevers, if any. Her white counts never elevated in her CBC's. Her demeanor was never of a sick child. We have found a wonderful asthma/allergy specialist who actually has the skill and training the manage her respiratory condition and immune disorder. The it has taken a long time to find decent specialists/pediatricians here in south Florida. Were you recommended to take him for further testing? You have to remember that we are mothers and we want things fixed now not later and we get upset and mad when the people we think should have all the answers don't. I know you don't want to hear this but even doctors don't have all the answers and we tend to expect more and even sometimes miracles from those in the medical field and when we don't get them we are angry and think they aren't doing their jobs. Monitor watch for any signs that things are changing and keep your doctor notified and make those appointments as soon as you can even if have to wait to see the neuro because you would still want him checked to make sure there are no after effects. Maybe they didn't put in the hospital because that would me more traumatic on him and he could be monitored at home knowing that you would bring him back if necessary. Please don't get mad or offended, because I that is not my intention but sometimes the only thing you can do is wait and see and Pray. My heart goes out to and yo u and I hope you find out what is going on and soon and that has a speedy recovery. My prayers are with both of you. Carol Trishasmom She isn't typical, She's Trisha!
