Laurie,

In addition to safety features in the house/room I would also be working on

safety with Mic as well. You really don't need a behavorist at home to begin

teaching safety issues in the home. When Mic is climbing on the table take

the chairs and turn them upside on top of the table. When he is running from

room to room but up baby gates in the door ways so he has to slow down and

ask for help to get to the other room. When he throws things take them and

put them in a box and he doesn't get them back for awhile. When he is hitting

you stop whatever it is that the two of you were doing and you go do

something else and tell him you will not play with him when he hurts you, also

have

him tell you he's sorry at first he won't have a clue but later down the line

he will learn that he needs to take responsibility for his actions. It's so

very important to teach safety every day, not just at school or when he does

something but all the time. It might take weeks or months but he needs to

learn that there are consequences to his actions. Child proofing is good but

without him learning the rules it only helps at home, what happens when you

are somewhere and they don't have a safe room.
