Guest guest
Hello, I think only you guys can help me. Luca is going to a private school in manhattan for children with autism. It used to be a great school, but it went way donhill. I went to a parent conference meeting in January, and I was told by the teachers that Luca is not receiving ANY of his related services, becuase the therapists are substituting for the abstent teachers. Can you believe it? No therapy at all! And I'm sure they are billing the Board of Ed for the services, too. Anyway, when I complained, I was threatened by the director od education: it was obvious that Luca was going to get kicked out if I continued to complain. In NYC all the good schools have huge waiting lists, and I panicked, thinking that Luca was going to have to stay home. An yway, I started searching, and apparently there are quite a few otpions. I just came back from a PUBLIC SCHOOL that has a section only for autistic kids: music therapy, computer, SI, life skills (they have a full kitchen, and teach kids to set the table, cook simple foods...). The classes are 6:1:2, and there is a very good vibe. As you well know, if I switch luca to a public school, and then one of the great schools (EDENII is my dream school) has an opening, I'm afraid it's going to be a huge battle to go back to private. I am going to see two more schools (both private), but I like the idea of supporting public school. Anyway, I'm confused!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
