Guest guest Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 Oh Margaret, I would have to agree when its one to 3 words in a sentence for a non- verbal is incredible news. has regressed in this area when his ABA sessions has come to a halt. All he is doing now is grunting and once in a while gesturing, no pointing and I do see some of his aggression behavior returning as he is trying to communicate as he is wanting to shove, push or yells out. I do blame it on the school just because he has master the skills of staying seated and no more tantrums during trasitioning from activity to activity or unexpected events or change of schedule and they are just focusing on his vocational skills and the educational skills are out the window so I'm assuming they just let him be and of course he does not have to talk now that he is an angel as his behavior has decreased alot and stays busy working on his vocational acitvities. His speech therapist says he is cooperating well but no data to follow. Do have an ARD meeting soon to discuss once again on his communication goals, the school gave up on the PECS trial, not that this has helped him much but I know he can benefit from it if they were educated well in this area and this is where I'm working with him at home once again on him following his schedule and exchanging pics of " I want " , etc., back to the drawing board. The visual strategies has helped alot so now I'm building my ammo to discuss the issue of implementing ABA into the classroom, they're not going to like it but hey he is falling through the cracks once again and I have data collection, videos and an ABA therapist contracted through the school district where he attends and going to make sure that his 1 to 3 words in a sentence are accomplished again, how I missed those moments and now get frustrated when I know he can do it. He recently has begun his ABA sessions again and I could see that he is really trying to talk, so hopefully I will hear them once again, even its a " leave me alone " . He is back into " no " word. All I'm asking is at least some form of communication to make his wants and needs known. This is the only area I have to battle once again. We got a speller? This is incredible how Gareth expressed it. Just beautiful. Irma,17,DS/ASD Quote
