Hi, Everyone...I just wanted to add to these story lines for the Moms with

younger kids.

Spitting: Gareth came home from school doing this and got suspended for

two weeks for spitting on another child at the water fountain. The principal

called me about the issue and asked where he had learned it. Since we already

were fighting the school, I sarcastically told her we put a fountain in our

kitchen and practiced taking turns at each other. He learned it at

school....just like any child does!!! The only difference is that DS kids

don't have

the capacity to be sneaky about it like the normal kids do....ie. waiting

till the teachers aren't looking, etc.

Chewing: Gareth had major issues when he was younger, too. Lived off of

fruit salad, cheerios, and spaghetti O's for years. DS kids can have major jaw

issues that prevent their teeth from coming together properly. Have your

kids checked by a dentist or orthodontist to r/o a severe under-bite, etc.

Unfortunately, Gareth can't tolerate the molds needed to fix his problem, but

he

isn't underweight and has learned (with age) to compensate chewing wise.

Haircuts: These were a major issue with us in the younger years, too. I

would wait for Gareth to go to sleep at night and turn on a small light in his

room and start clipping away. It doesn't take much to do a basic, one inch

layered cut all around. Take the hair between your fingers, pull away from the

head and clip with your fingers between the head and the scissors. No child

has a perfect hair day and no one will know any different. He could not

tolerate the smells from salons, the bright lights, sprays, or wet hair.

Nowadays, he will get a hair cut.....it's on his own term, though. Usably, his

hair

gets to 4-5 inches long and then he will say (while we are at the mall) that

he is ready for a haircut. We finds the closest one and get it done

immediately before he changes his mind!!! Take care, Everyone.
