<<Rumi was formally diagnoses with DS/ASD this past friday. My husband and I

feel both relief and sadness. He is prescribed Zoloft. Has anyone had

experience with this med with your child?

Hi, Everyone....Ursula....Gareth was on Zoloft briefly. One of the 'rare

side effects' is asthma. Gareth had his first asthma attacks on Zoloft. Just

keep it in mind. If you are going the med route, buy an updated PDR book

(prescription meds) or have a spot online that you can go to for info. Make

sure

you have a separate sheet or folder that you can mark all behaviors and keep

tabs on whether they are improving or getting worse. Here's what Zoloft did

for Gareth:

OCD behaviors....got much worse

Teeth grinding....stopped.....YAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!

Growling at TV....got worse

Echolalia/anger.....short fused....not good

Sunlight/bright lights....really bad

Fears (thunderstorms, etc)....got worse

Belligerence/redirection.....BAD

Speech/communication.....increased word/sentences....GREAT!!!

School work/redirection....OK

As you can see. there were some good points, but over all it didn't help

much. THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT RUMI WON'T DO WELL WITH ZOLOFT. I am not

yelling, either, I just wanted to make my point that you have to keep constant

charts to see improvements, etc. Rumi is only 3...I am surprised that they

would

try meds like these at so young an age. Gotta run.....will check

back later.

Take care, Everyone.

Margaret
