Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin, presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

According to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171, During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over t he heart.

'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides,' Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.'

Thats not true, if your going to state some thing at least have the research to back you. Listen to the debate, he does not say that. I happen to know Insurance Comapnies are against drugging kids and are starting to take a stand on this issue. I happen to know one insurance company that is looking into a gym type program instead of drugs, especially for those with ADHD.

I do not mind a cogent expression of support for Senator McCain - or any other candidate - based on their perception that he is more favorable than other candidates to vaccine safety issues and our children. I don't agree that there is sufficient evidence of McCain's support for these issues to claim him as our candidate, but that is my opinion and I am open to debate. I think there are few politicians who have established their bona fides on the issues affecting our children. This election is historic and I, among others, have great concerns that anger and violence could be the end result . We need to keep this objective, honest and keep our cool under all conditions. Both candidates are well supported by big corporations and it has always been that way. Our fight for our children will not be easy. It never has been. We have no choice but to move foreward, no matter what the options.

If SC is any example of how many will vote today--the lines are very long and it has never been that way before.

All: Please see memo by McCain-Palin pollster Bill McInturff on exit polls…

Turning Questions Into Answers.

TO: McCAIN CAMPAIGN

FROM: BILL McINTURFF

RE: READING THE EXIT POLLS

DATE: NOVEMBER 3, 2008

As we have seen in previous election cycles, the exit poll results do leak early and that ends up influencing the coverage of the race before even the first state polls close at 6:00 PM Eastern.

However, we want to remind the campaign that the media's own post-election study of the exit polls in 2004 showed that the exit polls overstate the Democratic candidate's support. Therefore, we would discourage a rush to judgment based on the exit polls and wait until there has been a representative sampling of actual tabulated results from a variety of counties and precincts in a state.

Here are the key points to keep in mind when the exit poll data starts being leaked:

1. Historically, exit polls have tended to overstate the Democratic vote.

2. The exit polls are likely to overstate the Obama vote because Obama voters are more likely to participate in the exit poll.

3. The exit polls have tended to skew most Democratic in years where there is high turnout and high vote interest like in 1992 and 2004.

4. It is not just the national exit poll that skews Democratic, but each of the state exit polls also suffers from the same Democratic leanings.

5. The results of the exit polls are also influenced by the demographics of the voters who conduct the exit polls.

After the 2004 election, the National Election Pool completed a study investigating why the exit polls that year showed Kerry over performing 5.5 net points[1] better than the actual results showed him to have done. Their conclusion was that the primary reason the exit polls was that Kerry voters and Democrats were more likely to participate in the exit polls.

"Our investigation of the differences between the exit poll estimates and the actual vote count point to one primary reason: in a number of precincts a higher than average Within Precinct Error most likely due to Kerry voters participating in the exit polls at a higher rate than Bush voters. There has been partisan overstatements in previous elections, more often overstating the Democrat, but occasionally overstating the Republican."[2] (Emphasis added)

We believe that this will hold true this year. The recent Fox News survey[3] showed that 46% of Obama voters said they were very likely to participate in the exit polls, while just 35% of McCain supporters are.

In fact, even the 2004 exit poll report noted that higher turnout nationally and higher levels of voter interest in both 1992 and 2004 correlated with greater Within Precinct Error.[4]

The overstating of the Democratic vote did not only occur in the national exit polls, but also occurred in the state exit polls. The 2004 exit poll report cited that the Kerry vote was overstated by more than one standard error in 26 states, while the Bush vote was overstated in just four states.[5] So we should also expect the individual state exit polls on Tuesday to be more Democratic as well.

So given that turnout is expected to be even higher than 2004 and that Democrats are more likely to participate in the exit polls, this means we should expect greater fluctuation and variation in the exit polls from the actual election results.

The 2004 exit poll report also showed that the greatest error in the exit poll came in precincts where the interviewer was younger. The completion rates were lower and the refusal rates and Within Precinct Error was higher when the interviewers were under the age of 35.[6] Complicating this is that nearly half the interviewers were under the age of 35, including 35% who were 18-24 and another 15% were 25-34.[7]

Conclusions

Based on the previous exit poll results, we should expect once again that Tuesday's exit poll data could overstate the Obama vote and under represent the McCain vote.

It is important that the campaign make sure the media realizes this, so that when the exit polls do leak, people do not overreact to the early exit poll data. Rather than looking at the exit polls, we should wait until we start seeing actual election results from key precincts and counties to gauge who won the election.> > > > > > > > > > > This tv report is alarming.> > > > Be sure to watch all of them.> > > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_HZMD97nMw> > <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_HZMD97nMw>> > > > Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin,> > presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he> > doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.> > > > According to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171, During> > rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present> > except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag> > with the right hand over t he heart.> > > > 'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking> > sides,' Obama said. Sarcasm, as funny as it could be, is least appreciated by its target.

Electoral political debate has itself become mean spirited as

character assault has been the weapon of choice of both camps. The

leaders set the tone.

Still, it is unseemly, and unproductive to sneer at fellow parents

with family autism on this list. We will need to work together in the

longer term no matter if Republican robber barons, or socialist

Democrats run the US government. Either camp will kill the golden

goose in self interest, I am convinced.

If we cannot have civility, perhaps we can attend to a sense of good

sportsmanship towards one another?

Ok- let me get this straight.

Obama haters can post untrue, old rumors about the man— and that’s ok.

But, when Obama supporters defend him and post a link proving that post untrue--- that is NOT ok?

I know Palin supports banning books, so I shouldn’t be surprised some of you want to censor what Obama supporters say. But, you have to know that that is not going to stop us from voicing our opinion. There is still free speech in this country, right?

Did Obama really say that about the anthem? Because if he did, I tend

to agree (to an extent). I think " America the Beautiful " would be a

more suitable anthem for these times.

As for the national anthem... I don't think the intent was to focus on

America's ability to kick butt (or to celebrate some kind of

blood-lust)... but as an expression of joy that when faced with an

almost hopeless battle in a war with the british empire... we

survived. Our freedom and independence survived when challenged.

It's a celebration of freedom and independence where war was a

backdrop. And that's fine...

but I still prefer America the Beautiful...

NO! Obama did not say it. IT IS FICTION. As posted previously:The alleged quote is from the pen of columnist Semmens of The Arizona Conservative. He writes what he calls "Semi-news -- A Satirical Look at Recent News." It was in that column on 10/27/07 that he wrote the text of what has been circulated in this email."http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/o/obama-pin.htmHere is an article that was published discussing how this satirical statement NEVER MADE BY OBAMA, but produced by a conservative columnist, made its rounds in the email internet rumor mill.http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/arizonaliving/articles/2008/10/18/20081018obamarumor1018.htmlAnother point - I agree that partisan postings to this list are not very helpful and I have tried to avoid such postings, even though I have a clear preference between the two candidates. But when malicious rumors that are false are spread as true, especially posted to this site, I am going to correct them.False rumors, especially when they contain the accusation "terrorist" or "muslim" (as a derogative term) or "not a real american" or "not the real america" and on and on create an atmosphere of hostility that is very dangerous to our country.Did Obama really say that about the anthem? Because if he did, I tendto agree (to an extent). I think "America the Beautiful" would be amore suitable anthem for these times. As for the national anthem... I don't think the intent was to focus onAmerica's ability to kick butt (or to celebrate some kind ofblood-lust)... but as an expression of joy that when faced with analmost hopeless battle in a war with the british empire... wesurvived. Our freedom and independence survived when challenged. It's a celebration of freedom and independence where war was abackdrop. And that's fine... but I still prefer America the Beautiful...> >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > This tv report is alarming.> >> > > >> > Be sure to watch all of them.> >> > > >> > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_HZMD97nMw> >> <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_HZMD97nMw>> >> > > >> > Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wearsa flag pin,> >> presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced toexplain why he> >> doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.> >> > > >> > According to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10,Sec. 171,> >> During rendition of the national anthem when the flag isdisplayed, all> >> present except those in uniform are expected to stand atattention facing> >> the flag with the right hand over t he heart.> >> > > >> > 'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceivedas taking> >> sides,' Obama said. I was not condoning the post and would not. I was just saying we shouldn't be taking swipes at each other. Sorry you missed my point.

Your answer is to post another rumor about the other side? It has been disproven as well. factchecker.org

Not as short as you might think.

I was only suggesting we treat each other with civility and not serve to further divide our community.
