Lin,

They make fun of all political figures and have always done that.

Remember when Hillary was still running and she went on the show?

Palin came off as somebody lacking a sense of humor when

Hannity asked her if she saw the show the first time Tina Fey

portrayed her. Her response was she saw it but had the volume turned

down. What kind if reply is that?

When Anne Currie showed Joe Biden the VP debate skit this past week-

He laughed his head off.

I think appearing on the show will make her much more likeable and

people can relate better to her if they see she has a sense of humor.

Please don't think she has been treated any different then any other

political figure. They have been mocking politicians on SNL since

day one.

One of my favorite political skits on SNL was when “Bill Clinton” (played by Phil Hartman) stopped by a Mcs and was eating everyone’s food.

I didn't join this list to be insulted..... I live in Alaska and what

are you referring to that we have to ship our kids out of state for

appropriate education or are you just referring to the Natives that

live here?

Palin's sister has an autistic child, I believe it's her son and

she's spoken personally to me about how important autism is to her and

that she knows the day to day effect of having a child with autism.

Hi Lara,

You know Bruce personally?

Do you know what her views are on vaccines and autism?

How old is her son? What is he like?

I think we would all really like to know what Palin thinks

about autism and the role of vaccines and biomedical treatments. Is

into any of this stuff? Her views on

McCarthy...anything, please.

Thanks,

Lara, welcome and Liz was just stating a known fact about the

situation of special needs in Alaska. Because of the budget for

services in Alaska, children with cognitive disabilities are

frequently sent to other states for residential care or placed in out

of state institutions.

I live in Massachusetts and if someone told me that Mass has among

the highest rates of forced drugging of children in foster care and

that mostly minority children were targeted and that the state is the

home of the Judge Rotenberg " school of shock " , I wouldn't be

defensive about it and it wouldn't be new news. In fact, it's

outrageous and what I take personally about it is that these abuses

are going on and I feel this has to be stopped. The children need

defending, not the collective " image " .

Yes, , I remember.

Never has anyone been as ridiculed and vilified as Palin. Even the media admits that!

The media has also been engaged in a love affair with Obama. They also openly speak about that.

I was stating my opinion. Something I am entitiled to. From what I've heard, she will be appearing anyway. I admire her courage to persevere.

I already posted against this comment 2 days ago. I agree with you

that whoever posted this message was way out of bounds. It was

offensive to so many, in so many different ways. Again, just someone

speaking before they think first.

Unfortunately, these same people, may also behave this way, when

dealing with the political people, who are the ones we need to

convince that our kids and fsmilies need help, and that we are not

just a group of aggressive, loud mouthed nuts. If we behave this

way " in our own home " , I can only imagine how some of us seem in

public?

I have posted this same concern a half a dozen times, when do we

learn, snd stop the crap.

In the large scheme of things, I could really care aless what your

point of view is. I have far too many other things to worry about.

But when you make a statement that we have to send out children out of

are being well educated right where they are.

From your previous message, I think you should spend a little time

researching some of things that you claim about Palin instead of

listening to the sound bites from the media.

I did not say I knew her sister. I said I have spoken with

about Autism. Back when she was running for the Republican primary

for Govenor, I sent every candidate an email asking for their views on

Autism and how they planned to deal with the growing crisis. She was

the only one who replied with a very long email, explaining that her

sister had an autistic child and that it was near and dear to her

heart and that she planned to increase funding for education, for the

Autism office that they have in Anchorage to expand to Fairbanks and

to help us get more services here for autistic children such as Drs,

therapists etc. McCarthy hadn't even hit the radar at that

point so I don't have an answer for you there on vaccines.

You have to understand the governor that we had before her was a joke,

he cut Autism services and truly didn't care one flip for special

needs on any level. He cut funding for those that needed it of all

ages etc.

I also received a short phone call making sure I got her reply and if

I had any other questions.

I joined this list to learn about possible causes of Autism. That's

what this list is for, correct?

Yes Lara,

That is what this list is for,

Welcome! Your information is very much appreciated, thank you. We

have been hoping for some information on Palin's stance on vaccine induced

autism, as that is what many of our children have. We are hoping to be

able to have people in the White House, Senate and House that will once and for

all remove Thimerosal from vaccines by a mandate, allow vaccine autism hearings

in the Senate, remove other toxins like aluminum, as well as welcome many

of our scientists, MDs, toxicologist, etc that have been doing this research

for decades, to be part of any colaboration either candidate puts together on

autism. Autism is treatable, and this is another area that we would like

the candidates to know more about, embrace and help bring the medical community

around to studying some of the children that are recovering.

Lara-

Thank you for clarifying that your spectrum boys are receiving appropriate education in Alaska. I have watched the spin go around and around so fast (not only on this list, but everywhere) that it's become difficult to see what's real, and your experience speaks clearly. There are many rumors villifying her, and I am glad to hear that one dispelled.

I had heard about her several months before she was tapped to be the VP candidate. That article, written by an Alaskan, said nothing but excellent things about her and her ability to run the affairs of the state well.

Let me state to our listmates that I'm NOT trying to be part of any debate on her or any other candidate. I'm just saying that the information has become murkier and murkier over the past couple of months, starting with false allegations everywhere that her son with Down's was really her daughter's son, and that she was lying about it. These kind of things are simply unfair and slanderous. The bottom line causing the emotions to run so high everywhere, not only on this list, is that she is authentically pro-life and our country is sharply divided over that issue,

As I stated, before, probably before you “joined”

our group, I did real research the kind attained with shoe leather.

I am glad to hear that your children are being well-educated.

I hope they, like my daughter who has severe autism, are grade-level in every

subject and domain; hopefully they will get to debate like this after they make

it through college and find their place in the working world. A number of

locals I met felt their children were not getting what they needed –

though I did visit a beautiful facility dedicated to educating all Alaskan children

of the culture of Alaska; the programs they offered were incredible and the

staff was wonderful. Poor education is happening in many states, a very

large number of our children aren’t getting what they need, all over the

nation. My point was simply that Palin has yet to make any move that I

would consider “championing” our children’s special

needs. Talk is cheap.

What I did learn about Ms. Palin is that she is dogmatic and

unwilling to change her chosen course (unless changing her position assists her

political aspirations). Also that she eliminates people who challenge her

demands.

I learned that she does a good job of following through with

what she says she wants to do. And I’ve learned that once the

lights are off, she does not do the work that comes after making the decision,

leaving that to others. And that she doesn’t have much interest in

the whys and hows of getting the work done; which may explain her not knowing

about the rape kits being charged to the victims?

I know that she spent a two years attending PTA meetings; her

kids have been in school for at least 12 years. Most other politicians’

kids go private, so there is this…

Even so, I don’t know if I trust a person who makes public

claims that are, patently, untrue (and easily proven so), “I told

congress thanks, but no thanks, on that bridge to nowhere;” when, in

fact, she did not. In actuality, she supported the bridge and secured the

earmark funding during her run for Governor. A $223 million earmark in

2005. Eventually, public furor resulted in Congress taking away the

designation as “earmark,” but Alaska still received the same amount

of “transportation” money, to spend as it chose. Alaska chose

to pursue the Gravina Island bridge (the bridge to nowhere), and spent $25

million dollars in pursuit; until 2007 when Governor Palin then flip-flopped on

the issue, cutting off funding. But not returning the remaining funds

received, to the Government; this was not, in any way, illegal...Or maybe it is

a good thing that her lies are blatant (at least we’d know when she was

lying, unlike some other politicians),

She took a $4,000.00 “pay cut” and sold the plane

(at a loss to the State); then proceeded to charge the State “per diem”

for 312 nights spent in her own home (over a year and a half). The " per

diem " charges are meant to cover the cost of conducting business away from

home including meals, lodging and transportation, when conducting official

business. Since she was away from the Governor’s mansion, I guess,

technically, this was legal…

Ms. Palin said, “I fought to bring about the largest

private-sector infrastructure project in North American history. And when that

deal was struck, we began a nearly $40 billion natural gas pipeline to help

lead America to energy independence.” But there is no deal to BUILD

a pipeline, the billions bought a PROMISE to try and obtain Federal license and

funding to build a pipeline. If all goes well, there will be gas running

through the pipeline in ten years. But, Ms. Palin has, so far, failed to

follow-through on the details – without an agreement from Alaska

regarding taxation of the gas production, no company will invest in plant and

equipment necessary to fill the pipeline.

She did fire the chef at the Governor’s mansion…Why

not, she didn’t live there?!

I promised, before, to behave regarding all of the political

crap, but I have a hard time not defending myself when attacked.

Please stop attacking me, personally. If you have salient

points, make them.

Thanks,

Liz P

I'm not sure if you are referring to me, but I did not attack you

personally. I only asked for some more meat to the information you

were posting.

The Bridge to Nowhere.....the earmark was pushed through from our

legislative team and if I was running for governor, I think I would

have supported the project until I was privy to more information in

the governor's position...seeing what areas needed the money more than

Ketchikan. She was in office a year and pulled the funding from the

project and directed the funds elsewhere.

http://newsminer.com/news/2008/apr/05/ketchikan-lawmaker-seeks-45-million-contro\

versial-/

As for the plane, the previous governor bought it with state funds!

They had it two or three times on Ebay and finally took the best they

could get for it. Would it have been better to keep the plane in

inventory and let it continue to lose value or take what you could get

for it?

As for the pipeline, that's been in negotiations for the entire 4 yrs

of our previous governors reign and he did nothing because he was

offering sweet heart deals to the oil companies. Because BP and

Conico wouldn't push the natural gas line through, the state

took bids on the preliminary steps of building the line. When they

refused to put their bids through the proper process, the state chose

TransCanada as the bid winner. Now BP and CP are trying to pursue

their own natural gas pipeline. So if they had 4 yrs to start

building a pipeline, didn't and now they didn't win the bid because

they didn't go through the proper process...are starting their own

pipeline project? Sound fishy to you?

http://newsminer.com/news/2008/jul/22/alaska-house-approves-transcanada-gas-line\

-proposa/

The oil companies are rolling in BILLIONS off our state, using our

resources and (to stay on topic) allowing oil spills and other poisons

into our environment with little repercussions. At least Palin takes

them to task and doesn't let them roll all over her.

The lower 48 reporters come to Anchorage for a week and really think

they know it all. It never ceases to amaze me what reporters will

write in some vain attempt to make their articles more exciting.

I can tell you that we now have an Autism advocate that attends our

IEP meetings, we have more services and more drs etc for our children

than we had two years ago.

Lara,

Welcome to the group. Be prepared to be attacked, have to defend yourself, not agree with everything that is written and have to sometimes just keep your mouth shut. Also say hello to some of the most active people in the autism community when it comes to REAL biomedical treatments and research.

If you came here to defend Palin or any politician, then be prepared to ALWAYS back up what you say- which may STILL not be good enough for some people.

This list is what it is. Sometimes it’s great. Other times it will drive you crazy. But it is EOH. It is OUR list. Many of us have been here for years.

Rule #1 in EOH Fight Club----- Don’t take everything so personally.

Rule #2--- Don’t talk about EOH Fight Club

Also, another piece of advice- if you don’t care less (or aless) what people think, have 2 kids on the spectrum and have lots of things to worry about, maybe you should consider a quieter, friendlier list. Just maybe. Of course you are free to post here. But, attacking other members like you did in your few days of posting, well..... I searched your name and the word “autism” and nothing came up. So, asking for more information about your point of view or statements is only natural. Especially on this list.

From your previous message, I think you should spend a little time

researching some of things that you claim about Palin instead of

listening to the sound bites from the media.

" Geeeee!!! I could never vote for someone that charges the rape

victims for the rape kits. E$ven if she says it was an oversight. It

was her job to look over this carefully, and that is the whole

point. . "

Unfortunately, this is another half truth with a spin... as if

Candidates on both sides aren't already inundated with this

craziness. There WAS such a policy while Mayor Palin was in office.

Wassilla is not the only City to hold similar policies as well, so I

don't believe it was an oversight.

However, the idea of such a policy is to have the victims' insurance

companies pay the city the $500 to $1,200 cost of the exam that is

conducted after a rape. It is true that a small amount of the cost

could possibly be passed along to the victim through either co-

payments or deductables, " ...although victim advocates say they

don't know of anyone in the small town who had to pay such a fee. "

This was brought out and discussed briefly in 2000 when the Alaska

Legislature passed a law that required state and local law

enforcement agencies pay the full cost of the exams.

" We would never bill the victim of a burglary for fingerprinting and

photographing the crime scene, or for the cost of gathering other

evidence, " then-Gov. Tony Knowles said when he signed the bill into

law. " Nor should we bill rape victims just because the crime scene

happens to be their bodies. "

Legislators and activists have said the law was prompted by Wasilla

and several other communities with a similar policy... " But a search

of the committee minutes for the bill found no mention of Wasilla or

Palin. Nor could we find any indication that city officials spoke up

about the bill until after it was passed, when Police Chief Charlie

Fannon was quoted in the local newspaper The Frontiersman saying he

opposed it. "

" In the past we've charged the cost of exams to the victims'

insurance company when possible, " he told the newspaper. " I just

don't want to see any more burden put on the taxpayer. " He estimated

the new law would cost his department $5,000 to $14,000 per year.

His comments suggest the city sought the money more from insurance

companies than the victims themselves "

In response to recent criticism, the McCain-Palin campaign said in a

statement that Palin " does not believe, nor has she ever believed,

that rape victims should have to pay for an evidence gathering

test. "

Quotes were taken from http://politifact.com/truth-o-

meter/article/2008/sep/22/palin-rape-kit-controversy/ or

http://tinyurl.com/4zgesl (I found other articles that said pretty

much the same thing on yahoo search)

The obvious intent of this issue by bloggers, was to make Gov. Palin

out to be this heartless woman who is further penalizing victims of

rape, by making them pay out of pocket for their own rape kits. One

is left to assume that since she was in office, she signed the

policy...therefore, she is guilty of deliberate discrimination

against the victim. The fact that rape victims are made to pay the

$500-1200 on top of their trauma, is more than a huge stretch of the

truth. Such comments deliberately leave out the role of the

insurance companies.

We can all draw our own conclusions, but personally, I see this as

just another attempt to make Governor Palin look uncaring and

incompetent. Mudslinging on both sides is is doing nothing but

diverting us from the real issues... yes, the economy... yes,

foreign policy... yes, healthcare. But until we have someone in

Office who will advocate for our kids and see to it that America's

children are no longer mass poisoned, we have little to look forward

to in the area of Leadership when our kids are all adults.

Wow! I would love to think that my grandson could be President

someday, but if that ever happened, this Country would be dominated

by road signs and Spongebob billboards... which actually, could give

the word " CHANGE " a whole new meaning!!!!

Elections really bring out the best in us, huh????

Lara,

Be prepared to defend yourself when supporting Palin.

Don't be easily intimidated.

Lenny Schafer is the owner and moderator of this list, no one else to my knowledge.

You are welcome here. I'd love to hear more. BTW, I am newer to the list too, but not to the plight. Not that any of that should matter one bit. We're all in this together!

For what it's worth, I didn't feel you attacked anyone. You were defending what you know to be true. The post you replied to was offensive to many, on many levels. You did nothing wrong. You have every right to set the record straight, ESPECIALLY when you have first-hand, personal experience on the matter! I, for one, welcome it.

Thanks for your input!
