Laurie... I know what you are saying. I spoke with the Asst. Supervisor of

Special Ed in our School District and although I stated that Tori had Ds and ASD

he kept referring that the " behaviors " were typical of Ds and that he had a lot

of kids with Ds in typical classrooms. No Duh! As the kids say. WRONG!!!!!

Her Ds is secondary to us at this point. The ASD is the diagnosis that needs to

be addressed. Kids with Ds don't have " behaviors " .

Liz-Mom to Tori 4 1/2 yrs.

I am in the process of trying to make the school understand that just

becuase Trisha can't answer questions doesn't mean she doesn't know the

answers.

When will people learn there are other ways to ask and answer questions

besides the tradional way? The other thing I notice is that the schools seem

to

not let Trisha grow up. They seem to keep her at a toddler age in the minds

and therefor teach her as a toddler with not as much expectations as a toddler

though.

The more I think about it, the more I believe we need an IEP for the school

staff, directors etc. For some reason they seem to have a mental block when

it comes to IDEA and 504. So I guess you can say they are learning disabled

and need us to come up with a plan to help them learn to fit in with the IDEA

community.

She isn't typical, She's Trisha!
