I received Mics report this wk-end well she thinks hes much worse than a

year ago. " Mic is now demonstrating signifigant impairment of social

relatedness including diminished response to social overture ,solitary

play with lack of seeking to sh are interest and activities, and markedly

diminished interaction with peers.severe imairment of receptive and

expressive language. At this time Mics developemental presentation is

consistant with a diagnosis of autistic disorder " that pretty much how

the entire report reads.Always hard on me I think hes doing so much

better and yet he isnt she says.So now we have 3 doctors all dxed Mic

asd. This developemental ped works for The Center for Disabled, Mics

school is owned by the Center.Im hoping this report will send a message

to the school that A child can absolutely be autistic and

downsyndrome. They just do not see enough of it to have any answers for

us.The doctor gave Mic a metal dumptruck to play with and he dangled it

by the dump bed.Mic must have been at his very worst that day.I know

this report will help me with services.Although it depresses me for a

few days.I do not see severe in Mic I see a severely happy little

boy. These reports always get to my heart. Laurie

Hi Laurie,

They get to me too. I should be used to reading how impaired my son is too

but it still gets to me after reading for that moment, them I put it away and

move on. It's ok.

Laaura: My heart is weeping with you.

Here is an exercise that helped me when I was at my very last broken

fingernail gripping a VERY THIN branch.

Draw three good size circles - maybe 3-4 inches. In one write: Severely

Normal next: Moderately Normal next: Mildly Normal. Now look at them.

Try to figure aout which one YOU are today.

I got them made into buttons and I wear one whenever I feel I am dealing

with people who just do not get it.

Big Hug to all of you!!

Laurie, I so know hon!!! When Maddie was tested, I asked if *I* could be

the one to try and motivate her instead of the doc. I told her that no way

would Maddie do anything with her; she just met her for goodness sakes. So

when the doc gave her two dolls, naturally Maddie picked them up and dangled

them. But when I got on the floor, the doc was able to see MUCH more from

Maddie. I took the doll and hugged her, then hugged Maddie and said, " Let's

kiss the dolly " ...I did it then Maddie did it. See what I mean? They

still put her in the severe range, but if I hadn't intervened that way through

the whole testing process, they probably would have put her in profound

range...sheesh!!!!

You KNOW what I'm going to say about Mic losing social

overture.....FLOORTIME..YEP. IMO it's the best way to encourage relationships

and engagement.
