Guest guest
Karyn our thoughts and prayers are with you all as I know how emotionally draining these decisions can be. You certainly have your hands full with a three year old and 4 month old. How old is ? How far away will he be from you? Let us know how his transition goes as the weeks pass. Louise, Mom to 41 big change in our lives I apologize for not being very active with posts lately. We have had lots of things going on at our home. To give everyone an update- A year ago 's in-home supports were greatly reduced due to state budget cuts. His behavior in the last years has gone backward about 2-3 years. We also had a baby who is now 4 months old. These things in addition to an outspoken three year old made it necessary for us to consider long term out of home placement. After a nasty battle with our county we finally prevailed and will go to a group home run by the agency that I used to work with. I feel confident that the change will ultimately be good for but the transition will be difficult for all of us. He moves on Wednesday so please keep us in your thoughts since this is probably the hardest decision I have ever made. I will miss him terribly even though I plan on seeing him often. I am looking forward to hearing from his group home staff and seeing for myself all the great things he is doing with the structure he needs and three interesting housemates to interact with. BTW, his room-mate also has ds and autism. Karyn
Guest guest
Karyn, Giant {{{{{hugs}}}}}} Of course, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. No doubt, CK will be able to offer you tons of support. It's an extrememly rough road we parents of kids with DS/autism walk. Only those of us that live this life know the stress and challenges that come our way on a minute to minute basis. The best thing we can do for each other is to respect, care and mostly support each other. Hang in there and vent any time you want...we're here. Louise, Mom to 41 > is 15 1/2. He is about an hour away which is much too far in my book but it was the agency I wanted and the program I wanted for him. Here in Wisconsin group homes for kids are rare and he really didn't need anything more restrictive. Karyn
