Hi,

Just thought I ask if any of y'all planning to attend a future pre-

conference workshop, around Nov.? Mayerson as the speaker.

How To Compromise With Your School District Without Compromising Your

Child

He will also have his 1st new book available for sale at the Texas

Conference. I've heard some great information from him from some of

my fellow cyberfriends and this one I will be attending and would

love to hopefully meet y'all or even after the pre-conference we

could all try to meet at a centralized place.

Further info on workshops at http://www.featnt.org/

www.dfwcenterforautism.com for any other future workshops held.

There are some wonderful workshops out there which I have attended

and have met several people from DFW out in Austin that have been

very supportive my way when it comes to discussing about assisting

each other with Texas issues.

Mika president of the featnt is a wonderful person who loves to help

many and she is just awesome. H. , M.S., BCBA

Behavioral Innovations, Inc www.behavioral-innovations.com, him and

his wife are just wonderful.

Gail(can't think of her last name right now) who will be opening a

private school soon in the DFW area which will be announced soon. It

has been posted at Texas-Autism-Advocacy ( nice

to see you posting again here on this list and the Texas list.)

The next workshop which is pending on my agenda will be Sept. 25,

with Kelle Wood she too is a wonderful person whom I admired, she

does not hold back any information especially when I had asked her

some questions as most services are aimed towards younger children

and most kids that are older have missed out on so much and we need

supportive information to make a difference for future kids

especially once they become older and start attending Middle school

and High school and some school with private interventions do not

accept kids once they reach a certain age and must attend public

schools and must confront the battles of continuing services that

they have progressed in and most schools do not provide the services

anyway here I go again writing a lot, sorry so moving along.

Thought I write now so that maybe we could plan a get together to my

fellow Texan neighbors. My computer crashed and I'm using one of my

sons computer so I have to return to learning how to take turns so

posting will be delayed as its under construction and what I hate the

most is that I lost all my valuable information that I had reserved

so I'm going to have to start all over again. Heading out of town

this evening so I hope to hear that we could work something out in

meeting with our dear kids included.

Thanks for putting up with me. ; )

P.S. Any one planning attending the Texas State Autism Conference in

Corpus Christi? It in Sept.

Irma;

I will check my calendar and see if I can attend this event. When I say

check my calendar, it means I am due with baby number 3 in October. This is

definitely a conference that I want to attend. My girlfriend and I attended

the conference in Houston last fall and both came home with ideas galore.

This would be a very interesting one to go to especially since she works in

the school district. I probably won't attend any others until after the

baby is born. This pregnancy has been extremely difficult. That's why I

haven't been on in a while.

,

I noticed you have a son9 and daughter 3 and expecting your third. My son is 10

and my daughter 3 going on 20 too well at least 16. She just wants to know when

she can drive. On paper it looks like our lives are a lot the same except the

part of the third child.

Do you sometimes feel like you have twins even with the age difference? I

certainly do. McKenzie can do some things Banner can not do like totally dress

herself, say her ph number and address and her social skills have passed his.

On the other hand Banner can do a few things she can't like write his name and

letters and read a little. It was a sock to me when I had McKezie and the older

she gets to see how fast children learn. There are some things with Banner that

I have worked on for years and he still just doesn't have. I didn't know if

you felt the same way and maybe your situation is different from mine.

Depending on Banner's day, sometimes it is hard for me to take them both out.

Marla,

Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about. My husband and I waited to

have Elisha until was in school full time (Kindergarten), because I

wanted to spend as much time with him working on little things like

speaking. I almost fainted when Elisha started talking. It's like she

started in sentences and hasn't stopped yet!!!! AHHHH. Somedays, I am glad

that only says a few things. Elisha just goes on and on and on and on.

Number three was not planned at all. I am still trying to cope with how am I

going to do this. I am still trying to give everything I can, outside

OT, PT, Special Olympics... might I add that I am 100% involved with all

this too, on the board of our SO and working with the Police dept to help

them understand disabilities and what to expect. ran away 2 years ago

and the police was called by a neighbor. They didn't know who he was. The

officer didn't know what to do. Very nerve racking since I didn't even know

he was gone. The relationship that and Elisha have is very similar in

age. My biggest problem is 's behavior is because of not being able to

communicate and that certain things bother him, like people leaving their

garage doors open. He has to go there and close it, and then open it and

close it... Because of his impulse to do things, Elisha follows. She

doesn't leave, but if we are in parking lot or store, will take off and

run to the toys and Elisha will run some place else. She is very

independent and talks back to me. It's hard to discipline her when she

doesn't see getting the same. 's whole life it takes 300 times to

get him to answer a question, so she ignores us when we want her to do

something. Those are the problems I face. As a parent of a special needs

child, I also notice that I let little things go. It's not worth the fight,

but when I am around other parents of " normal " kids, they flip out over

every little thing. These kids have the fear of death in them. But of

course because my child is so free willed, we are the " bad influence " . My

girlfriend actually tells her kids that if my daughter is doing something,

that it's probably going to get them in trouble if they do it. I find it

much less stressful to hang out with other parents of special needs kids and

their siblings. Less tension and stress. OK now that I have babbled on

forever. Thanks for listening.
