Guest guest
Oh, well. Tori is back to her usual. No sleeping all night alone! I spoke with her dr. yesterday and we decided to go the Benedryl route and see if that works. Well, on 1 tsp. my hubby laid down with her for a while (actually fell asleep with her until 2 a.m.) and she had to be woken up this morning at 9:30 and this is after she passed out from exhaustion last evening at 5 p.m. until 8 p.m... Don't know if it was the drug or just plain old exhaustion but I was so well rested I woke up 45 min. late this morning. I guess I needed the sleep! =) Dr. thinks that because she is constantly on the go during her waking hours, her body may still be in moving motion when she goes to sleep and it is almost like when you get a leg twitch in the middle of the night. So, off onto a new adventure to see if the Benedryl helps. I did enjoy a full night's sleep, tho. Shame on me!
Guest guest
Mic never sleeps all nite never has 5 hours and we are lucky never takes naps either. He starts out in our bed because at 1 am and hes awake nobody sleeps so we put him between us and we know hes safe.He stares at his dad sleeping for hours and plays with his eyebrows and face somehow Dad has learned to sleep thru all this exporing Mic does of his face.We tried benedryl and it did work for a week or so then it just did nothing.Mic seems fine but I have days I am so tired I am afraid to drive. On the wk-ends my dh and I take turns napping thats what we do for fun now nap.Ha we are getting old.The docs tell me having the tonsils and adnoids will help Mic has sleep apnea and wakes up 2x a nite about gasping.I wake right up when I hear it so does Mic.We have not figured out yet how to allow him to be awake and us asleep and him safe.I will try his own room again for about the 5th time in the fall I was thinking if we just had his bed and stuffed animals he would be safe but Mic would find something to get in.He knocked his dresser over last time he did not get hurt but could have easliy.I think alot of us have this problem. I feel for you and your family has been hard on us. Somehow after all this time I can giggle alittle at it and hope, last year it made me cry. Shame on me! Nah, be glad. And if the Benedryl quits working, try melatonin. It works for Maddie. And Laurie, same with you. Try melatonin. Also, the doc is right. Once Mic has his T & A, it will get better. You know, I realize that sleep disturbance is a HUGE issue with DS. Throw in autism where it runs rampant too, and we're in deep. However, having five kids, I know that sleep issues do not only involve kids with these dx's. My first and fourth were HORRIBLE sleepers. They were/are just very high energy kids who didn't require a lot of sleep. AND had a terrible time getting to sleep (Duff is not good at this...me? TAkes about 1/2 a second). Good luck ladies!!!
