Don't be so quick to think that he won't wear them. My daughter is very

orally defensive. I thought it would take years to desensitize her to wear

glasses.

It took one day. (she was 5 years old) She figured out that she could see

better and it hasn't been a problem. Her glasses were expensive, but they are

titanium and they can take a lot of abuse and they are very light (as in not

heavy). For what it's worth.

Blessings,

Sara - Choose to make lemonade, not complain about the lemons.

Laurie - Glad you are able to have this time with your Mom.

Myopia means near sighted. That means anything far away is blurred.

Stigmatism means that the cornea is off shape. My understanding is that

both these things can be corrected by surgery now. Worth exploring with a

surgeon who specializes in this. Usually it is done with LAser. Whether

they will do this on young children,I do not know.

I do know how hard it is to get glasses to stay on our kids, but they can

learn if time is taken to get the right kind of frames that truely fit the

face. It took us almost a month Iand 2 frames) before we accostomed our

foster son to wear his glasses. Keeping him away from his movie favs.

tunred out to be the winner - no glasses, no movies.

My son was two when he had to wear glasses ( he is far sighted with

stigmatisms). He is 10 now and still wearing glasses. As you can imagine

at two it was very difficult to keep his glasses in him. We would catch

them as they went through the air. It was easier for us to get him to wear

them when he was watching TV/Movie. We did the same as Sara......if you

want to watch _____ you have to wear your glasses. When the glasses came

off we turned the TV off. This was harder when we were out. People kept

saying to me " oh don't worry, I'm sure when he can see better he will wear

his glasses " . Needless to say that was not the case but, with consistency

it can be accomplished.

Laurie,

It took Rochelle a year to wear her glasses. We tried at 4 years

old. The titananium frames and wire ends that wrap around part of

the ear worked best. They would get caught in her hair if she tried

to take them off. She is now eight. She will keep them on but if

they get bent or uncomfortable she will fling them off.

The tv/movie advice worked well for Rochelle. She tended to leave

them on because she was absorbed in the movie then forgot they were

on. I still worry she will lose them on the bus or at school.
