Movement may begin as an impulse, sensation, gesture, image or memory and evolves following the inherent wisdom of the body. Thus, the mover begins to open to unknown aspects of the self as they manifest and become conscious through movement. The absolute attentiveness and non-judgmental presence of the witness provides a space where any and all aspects of the self can emerge. Attending impeccably to movement as it occurs in the moment, both as mover and witness can be a valuable source in developing presence and authenticity in the therapeutic process. , LCSW, LCAT, BC-DMT is Assistant Adjunct Professor, Pratt Institute Creative Arts Therapy Program.
