I am appalled at the comments about Palin on this list serve. I do know that on many cable news stations they are saying things that are lies about her. Hopefully, the real truth will come out soon. I don't think she has been given a chance yet, given she hasn't been interviewed or in a debate. She may surprise her critics, that seem to be mostly women. Go figure. Since women here are stating she doesn't speak for you. Well, except for her pro war stance, she does speak for me. I also think we all have much more of a chance with someone like her who has a special needs child, and nephew with autism to really listen and become an advocate for us. Also, I think McCain will listen to her.

I know this is so off topic but thanks for the laugh! I

love that skit with Silverman (and the one with Ben Afflack

and Jimmy Kimel too) The sad truth it Mr. Damon is 100% right and I

think all these people are swept away with Ms. Palin's charm and not

caring about her stance on things. At least we all know where Obama

stands on issues and we can vote for or against that.

This was an interesting point I read online today:

To get an idea of whether experience is something to consider, lets

take a look back at some of the past presidents in the US history:

Buchanan: 29 years

Gerald Ford: 25 years

H.W. Bush: 17 years

Nixon: 14 years

Bill Clinton: 12 years

Reagan: 8 years

W. Bush: 7 years

Abraham Lincoln: 2 years

Washington: 0 years

Dwight Eisenhower: 0 years

The former president with the most experience, Buchanan, who

had 29 years of service as a representative, senator, ambassador and

Secretary of State, is arguably the worst president in the US

history. While Abraham Lincoln with only 2 years experience in the

federal government is considered a national icon and, with

Washington, one of the most venerated leaders in our nation's

history. Going by this list, it is difficult to say that more

experience is better.

Here is the link to the entire article:

All I know is I will be voting on one thing and one thing only, who

will be best for my son with autism.

I care about a lot of things, but research on autism (the right kind

of research) is by FAR is the most important.

Matt Damon, the Dixie Chics, Madonna, , Paris Hilton...

and to be fair, Voight...

These people mean nothing to me... As soon as any of these Hollywood

jetsetters try to use their celebrity status to try to sway my vote,

I immediately turn a deaf ear and expand my list of movies that I

will not see, and CDs, that I will not buy.

I want to be entertained by these people, not preached to... I don't

care what they think, or have to say. I'll do my own political

research. I tried to skip this thread entirely and it took

everything in me NOT to watch this you tube video. Finally, as the

posts grew, so did my curiousity. Unfortunately, Matt Damon is now

right up there with the other celebs that I will not be supporting.

Given that he has a bigger hand in Hollywood, he'll be a little

harder to avoid that the Dixie Chicks!

Oh get over it. He actually speaks for many people on this topic. And

btw, don't politicians constantly " trash " each other. If I have to

hear one more time how the McCain camp is demanding an appology for

the stupid pig in lipstick line one more time I will scream. McCain

actually used the same line against Hillary months back, did she

demand an appology? Palin better grow thicker skin and so should you.

What I wouldn't give to have my moment on tv

I don't think this is about celebrity at all.

The reason I liked this video isn't because it's a celebrity speaking, but because what he's saying is TRUE.

And frankly, it's okay to me if celebrities actually have opinions. Celebrities or not, they're still Americans.

Yeppers. He did. In fact, he's said it more than once since last fall.

They showed all the clips on MSNBC last night.

I believe you can find it on youtube....

Seriously? Is there a clip? McCain used that same line?

What did the Dixie Chicks do? I saw the video of their big fopaw and I

didn't think they did anything to deserve being dissed . I am not a big fan

of most of these people, but if you had the power to voice your opinion,

wouldn't you? We all wish we had a bigger voice. Wouldn't you want to be

heard and be respected as a person, not a celebrity? I try to be open to

everything and learn how other people see the issues. You can still agree or

disagree. uses her celebrity and I am very glad. If my son didn't have

Lin, I posted this yesterday as part of a longer message. I found it in a 1minute Google search. The context is very similar to the Obama lipstick/pig reference, but coming from the other party.----------------------------------------------------------By the way, since we are at it and Obama was accused of smearing Palin with this "lipstick on a pig" remark, obviously the "pig" was Republican policies and not Palin, consider this report of McCain's campaign statement just a few months ago;"McCain criticized Democratic contenders for offering what he called costly universal health care proposals that require too much government regulation. While he said he had not studied Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's health-care plan, he said it was "eerily reminiscent" of the failed plan she offered as first lady in the early 1990s.""'I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig,' [McCain] said of [Hillary's] proposal."http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2007/10/mccain_rolls_out_health_plan_a.html----------------------------------------------------------McCain called Hillary a pig in lipstick??? I apologize for stating my opinion... but isn't that what people

here have been doing right along? And BTW, who's talking about

the " pig in lipstick " comment? I don't recall bringing it up... and

for the record, I BELIEVE Sen. Obama when he says that his comment

was not meant to slam Palin... And the truth is, I really

don't care. Like you said: " don't polititians constantly trash

eachother " .

Well, I'll go back to writing letters, e-mails and making phone

calls to BOTH camps. I prefer to make my decisions by doing my own

homwework. I am one of those Ron people, so I never went into

this election with my mind made up as to who I'm voting for. I'm

still not 100% sure, but people like Matt Damon AND Voight (I

said I'm being fair) will only continue to turn me off.

I'll take your advice and " get over it " , but judging from the length

of this thread, I'll pretty much be the only one!

One more thing, my skin thickened the day my grandson was dx'd with

autism... it got even thicker when we linked it to his vaccines.

This is what drives me to question both sides. I'm voting for the

candidate who can and will serve the needs of a generation of

injured children. I want to see who will most effectively stand up

to Merk, the CDC and everyone else who insists that vaccines are

SAFE...and continue to mandate them.

Charlie, to answer your question: Yes, I'm behind and Jim. Why

do I feel that this is different? Because they are not telling me

that Obama, Biden, McCain or Palin are bad people, nor are they

trying to sway my political views. They are flaunting neither far

left nor far right principles. is a mom, and a celebrity, who

is speaking on behalf of her son, who she feels was injured by

vaccines. As a community of parents, grandparents an advocates, we

have choosen her to be a spoksperson for our children. That's where

the difference is, as I see it. I'm glad that you brought this up,

because this actually crossed my mind as I was writing down my

thoughts.

Someone asked about the Dixie Chicks. I was referring to the

controversy they stirred up while performing in London about 4 years

ago. Fans paid to hear them sing, but they used their concert to

protest the war. This led to public outrage resulting in millions of

their cd's being destroyed. Before you jump all over me, I'm only

telling you why I mentioned the Dixie Chicks. People in this country

were outraged that they used a foreign stage to promote their

personal political views. It nearly ruined their career.

OK, I'm off this thread. But I stand by my opinion... I won't be

seeing any Matt Damon movies any time soon!

Last Monday evening, I was wondering why the traffic was terrible when I arrived near my home on my way home from work. I found out later, that Matt Damon was across the road, hosting the One X One Awards. I think I even caught a glimpse of him in front of Maple Leaf Gardens, as I passed by. He does seem to be involved in trying to make things better for people in various parts of the world, so I wouldn't disregard his thoughts and opinions.

I believe that he was speaking as a constituent. I am not swayed by what any

celebrity says

based on their celebrity status. Anyway, do you actually think that if Palin

could defend

herself that she would publicly?? This is a woman who has not said anything that

is not

scripted for her by the Bush admin!

candidate who can and will serve the needs of a generation of

injured children. I want to see who will most effectively stand up

to Merk, the CDC and everyone else who insists that vaccines are

SAFE...and continue to mandate them. "

After all, this is why we are ALL here, is it not? No matter how much we all

disagree, we

must keep this in mind. We must not let this crazy race devide us from common

goals and

one another.

BTW, the Dixie Chicks have used every opportunity to write/sing and talk about

Bush and

his failure as a leader since he was first elected. I think that this is a band

that uses music

to inspire thoughtful political discussion, whether we agree with them or not,

I so hand

them that!

The power of "song" can go a long way towards inspiring others. My parents' tiny country of Estonia used the power of song to do just this at their large song festivals, and attained freedom from the USSR in the early 1990's in a relatively peaceful manner. This was documented in the movie, "The Singing Revolution".

He's an actor. Where is his credibility in this all as an expert.

Sorry but perhaps we can all respect the fact that this is election

season and just let us discuss what this list was designed to do.

The majority of my lists I'm on will not allow the election to come

into the conversation because, as we see on this list, we've lost

focus. Yes it is important to think about qualifications and

sorry if I sound like I'm not interested. But to be

honest, I'm not in what Matt Damon has to say.

I would prefer to listen to someone that is invested and has a

stronger knowledge base.

Listening to actors about politics, because they have a voice because

they are actors, doesn't hold merit with me personally.

But that too is my choice.
