Guest guest
I'm a woman and a working mom and I didn't find his remarks insulting at all. Just right on the mark. -Bridgett- Really made matt damon look like an idiot for attacking her. Maybe someone needs to give him a newsflash - she isn't running for president. Guest guest
Actually, he looked pretty smart and brave to me--- to tell the truth about how he was feeling and how many of us feel. The fact is she IS running for VP with a man who is 72 yrs old and had cancer 4 times. She could VERY WELL be the president in the near future. I am a woman and a working mom and not insulted at all. I think you should phrase your comments to “he insulted me” instead of assuming all moms think like you- because we don’t. I am scared to death of McCain and Palin winning and sick to my stomach over this. But, in less than 2 days I’m back to volunteering for democrats in my area. Too bad I don’t live in Ohio or PA. But, I’m going to do everything in my power to help Obama get elected, in addition to the other politicians who have been supportive. - Really made matt damon look like an idiot for attacking her. Guest guest
So tell me again... if she wasn't a female . WHY would McCain have chosen this unknown woman with such a dubious career; a woman he has hid away to coach Pygmalion style? I want to hear her talk about real issues and real foreign policy unscripted. I want to know if she knows anything about anything. I am totally unconvinced so far. This pick for VP was some ploy to get her elected maybe next round as a Presd. Yes, my fear too that if McCain doesn't make it, she is our next Presd? That would really be sad news. Guest guest
Btw- yes- the main reason why he picked her was because she was a woman. And I find it highly insulting that McCain thinks that the women in this country would vote for someone just because they were the same sex- like issues don’t matter. Hillary and Palin have VERY little in common. Again, time will tell. - She’s pretty She’s young She’s conservative She’s pro-war She’s anti-choice She’s pro-hunting She gives him lots of attention that he didn’t have before She is a shooting star that will burn out quickly. Guest guest
He is a movie actor - I personally could care less what he thinks or doesn't think. He lives in a fantasy world. Guest guest
I don't think this is about celebrity at all. The reason I liked this video isn't because it's a celebrity speaking, but because what he's saying is TRUE. And frankly, it's okay to me if celebrities actually have opinions. Celebrities or not, they're still Americans. -Bridgett- Matt Damon, the Dixie Chics, Madonna, , Paris Hilton... and to be fair, Voight...These people mean nothing to me... As soon as any of these Hollywood jetsetters try to use their celebrity status to try to sway my vote, I immediately turn a deaf ear and expand my list of movies that I will not see, and CDs, that I will not buy. I want to be entertained by these people, not preached to... I don't care what they think, or have to say. I'll do my own political research. Guest guest
You're absolutely right, Tina. I watch MSNBC every evening and they've shown McCain using that same phrase on three different occasions in the past year. It's ridiculous. Oh get over it. He actually speaks for many people on this topic. And btw, don't politicians constantly "trash" each other. If I have to hear one more time how the McCain camp is demanding an appology for the stupid pig in lipstick line one more time I will scream. McCain actually used the same line against Hillary months back, did she demand an appology? Palin better grow thicker skin and so should you.Tina> >> > I saw this video and had to share. Guest guest
And the scary thing is that McCain didn't even want to pick her. He wanted Joe Lieberman and if McCain was truly a maverick he would have done so. Instead he kowtowed to the far right. This is a clue to how he will govern. In the end the most important thing about the election is THE SUPREME COURT! The justices (and other judges) chosen will shape this country far more than one president could ever do. At the end of the day we have to ask ourselves which President will pick Justices and other judges who will side with citizens against Big pharma and Big Business when all the truth about toxins in our vaccines and the environment becomes so apparent that no one can deny it anymore. Eventually all this will end up in the courts. --------------- Ezorsezor@... Lt. Gov. Parnell announced Friday that every eligible man, woman and child will receive $2,069, thanks to this year's annual payment from the state's oil royalty program. On top of that, the checks will include an additional $1,200 from the state treasury to help offset soaring fuel prices. The one-time energy boost was proposed by Gov. Palin in May and approved by state lawmakers last month. Palin has since been tapped as the running mate of Republican presidential nominee McCain. It fell to Parnell to make Friday's announcement on the dividend because Palin is out of state. " The royalty dollars that flow through the state are the people's wealth, " said Parnell. " The $1,200 resource rebate goes to that philosophy. " In addition to the $1,200 payments, the Legislature also approved Palin's proposal to suspend the state's 8-cents-a-gallon gasoline tax for a year. Past dividend payments ranged from $331 to $1,963 in 2000. Last year's payout was $1,654. People must live in Alaska one calendar year to qualify. For residents in Alaska's rural communities, the money can't arrive at a more crucial time. " When it gets real cold in winter, it can take five gallons of fuel for heating overnight, " said Wanda Sue Page, who lives in the Arctic village of Noatak, where residents pay more than $9 a gallon for gasoline and nearly $10 a gallon for heating oil. " I'm going to fill my 52-gallon tank up to the top and put the heat up real high, " Page said. " And when it gets empty, I'm going to fill it again. " In all, 610,768 people are receiving the dividend this year. The state's estimated population is just under 680,000. The fund was established in 1976 after North Slope oil was discovered. Including the upcoming dividends, the fund has yielded $16.5 billion to Alaskans since the first payout of $1,000 in 1982, according to the state Revenue Department. That's not counting this year's extra energy relief money, which alone totals $730 million. Sam Shields, who lives in the Kuskokwim River town of Bethel, said the state money is desperately needed in his community, where he recently saw a whole chicken selling for $23 at the local grocery store. " Everyone around here was happy to hear how much we're getting, " he said. " Mainly everybody here is saying they're going to use it on fuel. Guest guest
Good question - normally I like to steer clear of OT conversations like this but you really piqued my curiousity. Googling I found some really varied things, but settled on this webpage at the National Review's site. They are the conservative magazine that F. Buckley edited (and founded?). Of course this doesn't seem to clear up a thing, just make it all even more confusing imho. Marty http://littlelink.webtrouble.com/?Urtn Monday, September 01, 2008 Palin's Approval Rating in the Teens [<http://media.nationalreview.com/author/?q=NDIxNA==>Greg Pollowitz] Among the press covering her in Alaska. From the <http://www.huffingtonpost.com/greg-mitchell/2-top-alaska-newspapers-q_b_122625.\ html>HuffPo: A reporter for the Anchorage daily, Gregg kson, even did an online chat with the Washington Post, in which he revealed that Palin's approval rating in the state was not the much-touted 80%, but 65% and sinking and that among journalists who followed her it might be in the " teens. " Good news. Now we can discount everything we read about the governor from the local Alaska press. I hear her approval rating among polar bears, caribou, and moose in the region is even lower. Here's more: His paper found a number of leading Republican officeholders in the state who mocked Palin's qualifications. " She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president? " said Lyda Green, the president of the State Senate, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. " Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation? " Doesn't the far left understand that conservatives the base of the Republican party do not care what Alaska Republicans think of her? Alaska Republicans symbolize everything that we think is wrong with the Republican party. It should be noted that Lyda Green and Palin have a less than positive relationship, stemming, at least in part, from an unfortunate appearance by Gov. Palin on a local radio show where the DJs went after Green and <http://www.adn.com/opinion/comment/story/295464.html>Palin didn't respond in the way she should have. <http://media.nationalreview.com/post/?q=Nzk3MzY3OTdiZGY0ZmNlZjhiMjhjMTE3MDg5Zjd\ kN2E=>09/01 10:51 AM You wrote: > Posted by: " searchingforserenity111 " > searchingforserenity111@... searchingforserenity111 > Date: Thu Sep 11, 2008 12:04 pm ((PDT)) > >Do you have a link and/or source for " an over 80% approval rate in >Alaska " ? Guest guest
>Yes, my fear too that if McCain doesn't make it, she is our nextPresd? That would really be sad news.< Maybe not. I have been watching all the cable news to hear people's opinion of Palin. I think it is too premature to judge her just yet. Maybe she will surprise the many women democrats who seem to despise her so early. The polls show (so far) more men than women favor Palin. I certainly won't let a young actor influence in my vote though. C.
