Guest guest
Hello fellow multiple parents, We are settled in nicely in the Portland area after our move this summer from Vashon Island. (DS) and Beckett will be 3 in January. started his new program. Once a week he goes to a playgroup at the education center where there are 9 children between 2 and 3 years old. They have a staff of about 5 during the hour and a half - speech, physical therapists, etc. It has been wonderful to join a group where there are 7 of the 9 children with Down Syndrome. On the island, he was the only one. Now I get to interact weekly with other mothers who are experiencing similar challenges. It has been a bit disappointing. I can't help but compare him to the others. He is ahead of the group physically, but way behind verbally and developmentally. He cannot sit still. I was surprised to see others in the group being able to sit and have a story read to them. I was most surprised by a little boy who has a huge vocabulary. has only one word "All Done." He knows several signs, but as you can imagine with three kids in the house, it is very difficult to do the one-to-one time. We are going to get an Au Pair to help us through the next year. is very difficult to take on adventures with Beckett and Oakley (5). Today we went to a pumpkin farm where they had a petting zoo and hayrides and pumpkins - and all he wanted to do was wander off. When we kept bringing him back to us and keeping him with us all he would do is cry. We had to leave early because he just wasn't having any fun at all. I felt so bad for his sister and brother because they were really enjoying themselves. I hope with an au pair, I'll have more hands to watch and more time for the other two. That's about it. We are also joining another baby Down Syndrome play group that meets once a month. Our first gathering is Friday. I am looking forward to it because it's mostly for the moms. I do get a LOT out of talking face-to-face with other moms going through the same stuff. - mom to (DS) and Beckett - 2 1/2, and Oakley - 5 next month!
