Guest guest
, I wish we could fence all 10 acres but it would cost so much and probably 7 acres is completed forested. Heavy trees and brambles. (DS) hasn't wandered off into bushes yet...just follows the main gravel driveway and wanders away. He would have to walk a half mile to make it to the main road (which is also 35 mph but people go 50 mph). Do they have 'beepers' that kids can wear if they walk past a certain perimeter? If not, someone should invent one! - -----Original Message-----From: Verissimo Sent: Tuesday, April 06, 2004 4:21 AMTo: Multiples-DS Subject: Re: Checking in We only have an acre, but are moving to 5 acres. We are completely fenced. We also keep the gate locked. Davey will wander to visit with the neighbors if we don't. We plan on fencing a large area for the boys when we move to the five acres. It is very scary, because we do live near a road that the speed limit is 35, but everyone goes fifty. We are a couple of blocks away, but he moves SO fast. wife to mom to Amy. I am mom to (DS) and Beckett - fraternal twin boys, now 2+, and big sister Oakley (4+). We are beginning to venture outdoors more. We live on 10 acres in a very rural area - no major traffic roads. The acreage is relatively safe except for Nettles (stinging plants) which the boys are touching! We have a half mile gravel driveway and the only wild animals on the island are raccoons and deer - so it's relatively safe! EXCEPT, for the fact that just starts wandering off! I cannot get him to stay within range of the house and want desperately to allow him to go outside with his brother & sister while I clean-up inside. We have a great playset and lots of riding toys, but all he wants to do is walk off down the driveway! A friend suggested getting a sensor and putting it at the farthest point I'm comfortable with and then it would beep if something crossed in front of it - my only problem is it will go off anytime ANYTHING goes in front of it…. Any suggestions for my wandering child? Does everyone have this problem? I feel like that extra chromosone he's carrying around somehow affected his ability to know his 'safety zone.' I swear he has no instincts for danger at all…. Hope that fulfills my 'check-in' for the month… - Multiples-DShttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/Multiples-DS Multiples-DShttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/Multiples-DS
Guest guest
too wanders and has "no fear" (they made that saying famous because of I think...lol). We live in the middle of a fairly large city (330,000+) so no acreage here. At the moment I live on a court (but won't within the next two months...sold my house) which has been great. Had it not been for my neighbours who knows where would be now. My backyard is completely fenced however has removed panels of the wood fence and slipped through into the neighbours backyard which has a pool in the past. He was always caught before he jumped into the pool. Basically doesn't go outside unless I do and even so manages to wander away when I take my eye off of him for a moment. My house is the house that all the neighbourhood kids come to which was a problem for a while because they were leaving my front door open without my knowledge and next thing I knew was outside barefoot and in the snow. LOVES loud noises and water. So he runs towards cars rather then away. He runs towards lawnmowers, sits on the vacuum cleaner when I use it, and will jump into any (or stand under....run off from the eves-troughs) body of water. Anyhow, I don't have any suggestions to solve the problem but hopefully its nice to know that others face the same dilemmas. , single mom to 27 weeker twins that are now 7 years old: Nicala & (ds, adhd, autism) and (age 5)Post your free ad now! Guest guest
I wish we were going to be able to "Davey proof" the whole property, but I know we won't be able to afford it. I want to fence a 1/2 acre or so for a yard for the boys to play in. We probably will use chain link. You literally turn your back and he is out of your sight. His latest game is to lock himself in one of the cars and play with the horn! Checking in Checking in from beautiful Vashon Island, Washingon (somewhere in the Puget Sound).
