Guest guest
We met yesterday with the Psychologist. She talked to my husband alone for more than an hour, while and I waited in teh waiting room. Then she went in with alone. She came out after about 15 minutes. When she came out she said " you can come in now, (whisper) you can come in now. Can you believe I'm being beaten by a rug? " . (excerpt from Disney film Aladdin). We knew that she had met the real !!!! She filled out some DSMII form. Then she told us basically that the autism was obvious to her. She couldn't formally diagnose him with autism, because DSMII requires the onset at 3 years. Of course, at 3 was still crawling and not talking, so couldn't determine if the onset was then. BUt, he has seemed to regress over the years. So, she said her formal diagnosis will be PDD/NOS. What a relief. I thought it was going to be difficult and maybe she would say it was our imagination. We believed it so strongly. It's good to get confirmation. Guest guest
IF someone is using the DSM II, they need to get a new book - the standard now is DSM IV. Secondly, it helps alot if the parent takes an autism check list with them to visit a doc. It helps convince them when they cannot see somethings. Hi Judy, The transition from one teacher to the next each year is hard enough not to mention transitioning into yet another school. I hope the new diagnoses with help with the accomodations to ease the transition. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 11 DS/OCD
Guest guest
No, i think this psychologist had the current dsm. She just said that the onset of characteristics had to be by 3 years old. And was not observable at that time. He wasn't doing much at 3, let alone exhibiting definable behavior.
