Hi all,

will be having his AAI surgery tomorrow morning. They'll be grafting a

bone from his pelvis and fusing the c1, c2 and c3. They'll be using wire rods

and a plate. There are two orthopedic surgeons and a neurosurgeon. I am very

nervous about this, of course, but I am glad that the waiting is over. I'm not

sure how we'll survive the recovery period because he'll either have a collar

or halo on for several months. I'll post again when we are back home and let

you know how it goes.

My ex-husband had the same operation 3,4 and 5 though they took bones from

Laurie, many people have it done that way. But since I was pretty healthy

(no smoking, no other conditions) they used a bone chip from a cadaver

(everybody who had it done your ex hubby's way says the same thing..that the hip

hurts

worse). My then 13 year old son went around telling all his friends that

his mom has a *stiff's neck*....LOLOL I believe now they tend to use synthetic

materials for it as they offer more flexibity in the neck. I wore a collar

for 4 months....soft one for driving and sitting, hard one for walking and

standing. Mine was between C6 and 7...ruptured disc. I felt INCREDIBLY

great, even in recovery. The pain was all before.
