Brook qualified because of his disability and was immediately on the program. We also qualify for respite, camp and daycare (now that I am working) through the Regional Center and IHSS (in-home support services under Medi-Cal) and HIPP ( reimbursement for medical premiums also through Medi-Cal.) One must find all the people who need services. Once a VOTING BLOCK of people needing services become visible, services may at the very least be available in a more equitable way. At the very best, more funding will be available to help the people. That's why I asked if any states out there have actually attempted to tabulate who needs services - not just who is getting services. We also have a very active autism society that is vocal, along with other groups. Just this year in Wisconsin we lost our funding for ABA for children with autism. Some was reinstated but not enough for most of the older kids. At least in Wisconsin all kids who have a significant disability are covered by medical assistance.
