Disney special pass

Thought I share a little more on the Disney pass on what a parent

from another list had shared. Many other groups thought this was a

hoax but here is a reply in regards to this.

RE:

Msg. below was posted on the csb list--it sounds like the policy

may be different between Disneyland and Disneyworld.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

This all started with a family on a bpparent list that I'm involved

in... They went to California Adventures and Disneyland on New

Years Eve (they're season pass holders), paid extra for extra

members in their party and found out only after entering the park

that the policy had been discontinued the prior week due to

people abusing it. The ultimately ended up leaving the park after

a very short time because their son was not able to handle the

crowds and lines that day.

I don't know if Disneyworld and Disneyland are handling this

differently, I've heard both ways from people who have been

writing me back channel. After this family reported the incident to

the list, a number of us contacted Disney directly and were told

that the policy was now different and that doctors notes would

not longer be a valid means to getting the pass. Only those with

mobility problems requiring a wheelchair would be immediately

eligible for the pass. Others would be determined on a case by

case basis by the cast member on duty.

This began raising concerns amongst us that cast members are

not medically trained to determine what constitutes a disability

and what does not, plus invisible disabilities would obviously be

subjectively judged.. They're not looking at our kids after a few

minutes of standing in line, they're seeing them just walking into

the park...same kid, entirely different situation, entirely different

presentation. There was no way that this pass could be fairly and

consistently distributed to the individuals who need it.

So, we started an email, letter, and phone campaign. Every

single one of the responses we got (we started receiving the

letters back this past week...) was the exact same canned

response and each directed us to the availability of the fast pass

program. I had written letters specifically to Eisner and Rasulo

(who is in charge of all the Disney Parks) and they were

redirected to Disney Resorts w/out ever being seen by the

intended party. I got the exact same letter back from each of

those letters.

Thus, our little group was further mobilized and hence the

petition campaign was begun. I did make one mistake on the

petition which is about the fast pass. There is no charge for it,

but it is only available for a limited amount of rides in the park

and still requires a long wait, only not in line, you have to go

back

to the ride and get in the fast pass line when your time has

come. Unfortunately I cannot change the petition now that it has

gone live and that is a mistake that I, and only I, am responsible

for. Thespirit of the petition remains the same tho and I will

clarify that with Disney when I present the petitions.

So, it is a very recent policy change, at least on this side of the

country. There is now also confusion whether the policy change

is being reviewed... As of Friday, one Disability Rights atty was

told one thing--yes, they're reconsidering and will have a final

decision in March-- and the rest of us were told no, they are not

and that the decision remains as is, and others were told that

there was never any change. I spoke w/a supervisor and was

told that they are no longer accepting the doctors notes, and it

will be on a case by case basis. She said that in my situation,

w/3 kids w/autism, I'd probably not be refused (not definitely, but

probably not), but that doesn't apply to all mental disabilities

(her words).

Hope this not so brief explanation explains it? Please explain to

your news group that this is definitely NOT a hoax. I am sorry that

people are saying that without coming to the source of this

petition (me) like you did to clarify. I would have never put my

heart into something that was not verified etc if I hadn't checked

it out and been active in communication with the company before

putting this petition live.

I agree Carol, its always good to stay on the safe side for anyone's inquiring

minds. I know I do.

Even though we had our own resource hearing about it through Ginny's visit out

there. ; )
