Hi Irma,

This is sooo great. I can really appreciate this. By the way, I have a wall

in my home too,LOL.

I went to the school today with my entourage of attorneys over my issues with

having Zeb included in the school band. Zeb has been in instrumental music

for the past 2yrs. He is a drum student and naturally not very good. All 5th &

6th grade instrumental music students are in the band but Zeb. The difference

being they forgot to tell me. I found out the night of the winter concert. Zeb

did play that evening even though he wasn't welcomed with open arms. The

school team took the 5th as I expected. The inclusion facilitator tried but her

lack of not knowing wasn't in her best interest. The music dept head has not

replied to my e-mails and phone calls. I have requested an IEP meeting in honor

of

the music dept head. I hadn't planned on taking on the entire school district

music dept, but here we go. I have requested written policy criteria for

joining the school band. If the music dept head does not show for the IEP

meeting

she will certainly have to explain herself to a hearing officier of the

district. In the meantime I have a very appropriate poster that I will have the

principal hang in the music room. It says, A Community that Excludes One of it's

Members is No Community At all.

Sorry just proof read this and boy did I exclude some words, I am hoping you did

catch my mistakes and knew what I meant.

My goodness why can't they just smell the coffee that they're just

going to have to realize that Zeb enjoys band and is a devoted band

member.

(forgot to include wake up and smell the coffee).

Thanks on sharing your stories and I understand it

has been an easy road.

(Definitely has NOT been an easy road for you, but glad you have been given some

strength for being couragous on approaching and an walking the extra mile for

your son).

I better head to mass and sorry.

Hi Irma,

The end of the band story and a new beginning for all our disabled children

in the district. Zeb is now a band member. The dept head called last night and

they will review and relax the standards to include all students K-12. They

did not admit to any wrongdoing naturally, they plead the 5th and said Zeb never

asked instead of implying that he had not been considered. I'll take that as

a victory and be pleased to have made a positive change in this district. The

road to inclusion is hard in my district but we've come a long way.

I have been asked to teach a grad class at one of universities in the art of

IEP meetings,LOL. I think this is my reward for my hardwork. My dh is still

shaking his head. Off to my class.
