I'm dreading middle school and here you are at high school. I know I'll be

asking alot of advice when she goes to middle school. Keep good notes so you

can send them to me when the time is right. lol

Good luck to and you in high school, if you can get through all the

other years I know you will make it through high school with flying colors!

Oh Carol,

What news to read on Trisha. Remarkable! What wonderful news on her current

teacher discovering Trisha's individual learning style, paying attention to her

personal choices and looking at her performance in different developmental

areas, picking up her signals. Some learners can't find follow spoken

instructions; they need to be shown. The best teachers learn to work with the

individual's strengths, the preferred stimulus. Otherwise, repetition is

useless. It does make a difference when the school staff come around for our

kids and treat them as an individual and not a label or their disability. Each

can learn a functional form of communication. Love the way she can express some

needs, choices, and dislikes. What great progress.

How I miss 's middle school years, it is another ball game with High

School for him this year but I'm not done yet.

Hugs!

Re: update on Trisha (it's been awhile) sorry long

thank you! and yes the right support makes all the difference. I know there

are still more bumpy roads ahead of us, but, we got through this, we will

get through whatever comes our way. :-)

P.S. I can't begin to tell you how wonderful it is for Trisha to be able to

tell us that she is cold. Now that she has the sign for it, we were able to

link her vocalizations to the sign and she has been letting us know when she

was cold for years, we just didn't understand her language. It's funny how

we just thought she was making noise and all the time she was communicating

and probably couldn't understand why we were so dense! lol

Hi Carol,

Just keep track of everything right now that is helping Trish progress and be on

guard that nobody changes it. This will give you power and strength to continue

having what is working for her now to transition into the next school years.

I'll try to remember to make up a file just for Middle school info, so that if

anyone needs info. I'll be glad to share.

Thanks for building my self esteem, it helps to heal my soul, to continue this

road and keep the vine growing on a positive route for 's future. Of

course all this on what I've been applying for has made a difference for

many other students. I still in touch with my sons middle school teacher with

info, especially supporting her with the sibling support group that she has

started back when 's older brother had attended. I was told that it has

grown since too many kids with special needs are coming aboard and many of the

siblings and future ones are enjoying this program and they are becoming better

people. Having a sibling with special needs affects the whole family and can

cause some stress. They are being productive towards their school work and just

being a better person and the Autism team had commented on occasion that they

know who is providing the information. I just smiled, I am shy.

I do love hearing how well Trish is doing. Love it! How many more years will

Trish continue being at the same school she is attending now? Maybe you could

squeeze in some video taping, is it possible? Because this just shows how much

someone was willing to find Trisha's talents.

not sure how long she will be at this school, technically she should

transistion out this coming year, but they don't have a special ed teacher that

is

appropriate for her needs at the middle school so I am hoping she might stay

another year where she is. Her teacher and I both agree we don't think she is

ready for middle school yet. So we will see what happens.
