Hi Laurie,

OMGosh!!! has been doing this [an average] of several times

per week for the past year or so. We have racked our brains trying

to figure out what exactly is going on...seizures?? Nope, lasts too

long and sometimes we can interrupt it. One of his docs suggested

that it was a side-effect of one of the meds he is taking, but I

didn't buy that since it is so episodic and we haven't made any

medication changes. Unbelieveable!! I just hadn't considered that

it could be an autistic behavior. He used to stim like crazy...in

fact, when he was younger we all used to joke about how could

spin anything...didn't matter what shape it was! LOL And

string...he was a dangler extraordinare!! LOL Lots of hand flapping

in those days as well. We started behavior meds when he was about

10, more for self-injurious behavior and aggression, but [over the

years] most of the [flagrant] self-stim stuff stopped as well. He

still does some pinching [self and other-wise] and everything gets

chewed on even his shirts. BTW, his teacher found something called

a " Chew-ease " in Abilitations catalog, which she purchased for

. I have since bought several more just in case we lose them

or they get nasty. It's a piece of plastic tubing connected to an

expandable plastice piece [like you see on key chains] That is

attached to a plastic clip. We clip it to the neck of his shirt and

he has something to put in his mouth that can't drop on the floor [or

in the toilet, yuck!] The down side is that he has this thing

hanging on his shirt...but the benefits outweigh the down side for

him! LOL is in HS and the regular ed hs kids don't seem to

think there's anything particularly strange about it...all righty

then! LOL Getting back to the " eye cutting " .....I am going to have

to start charting the episodes and see if I can find a trigger. This

is a new class. It was just formed this year. There have been some

pitfalls with it and I am sure that there are some stressors to be

found there. But, he is doing it at home as well, hmmmmmmm. Back to

the drawing board! LOL Thanks so much for the info! I just love

this List!!

OMGosh Terry!! Tristan does the arm flapping and chewing on clothes

and blankets. Again, never associated these behaviors as being

autistic in nature. SEE!! I learned something new again today.

Obviously, Mic doesn't liek his haircut. Tristan hates it!!! He

doesn't even like for me to brush or comb it. Major fit throwing and

fighting. The pic I sent you was after 15 minutes of work and ALOT

of extra strength gel. lol

HUGS...Colleen
