Guest guest
Del...I usually cough up a little blood about every three months or so. The first time was three years ago when I was lying down doing p.d. I just cleared my throat and up came about a table spoon of bright fresh blood. I waited a few minutes then cleared my throat again. Another mouthful of blood. I decided to just lie still and wait. When I eventually sat up about twenty minutes later, the bleed had apparently stopped. It was late at night so I just went to bed at that point. The next day I was coughing up old brownish blood mixed with mucus. I felt so relieved !! Since that time the blood I cough up is much less, and is usually the result of a hard cough to clear some sticky mucus from my throat. I am now a lot more gentle and try to avoid coughing. What helps me the most is combining Autogenic breathing techniques. ( pushing out the waist area when breathing in and sucking in that area while slowly breathing out. Keeping the upper chest still.) I often use this method when driving. in Ca.
Guest guest
Thanks for that ...my bleeding is a bit more frequent but usually less than 5mls..i really should be used to it as its happened for 30yrs --certainly more frequent since pseudomonas though... like you i lie low till it settles--next day just old brownish stuff--i will try to utilise that breathing technique...cheers Del Re: upside -down Del...I usually cough up a little blood about every three months or so. Guest guest
Autogenic technique is the samme as the diaphram breathing technique, I used to always use , when coughing has made it impossible to catch breath, and it is a wonderful technique to relax all the other muscles, when driving, or even sitting quietly at the kitchen table, with a bed pillow directly in front of you on the table, lay acrosswith elbows stretched out like wings, concerntrating on breathing out ( pushing out ) on inhale gently till all air expired then, sucking all ab muscles, when taking a long slow breath in, works all the tummy muscles, diaphram and not put pressure on lungs and making surrounding muscles agony when breathing, this really does take a lot of pain out of breathing. I still do it when driving in a hot car, or sitting where this is no real breeze, or when feeling stifled, it helps greatly to break muccous up too, cause after doing those excersis for 10 -15 minutes have a lay on the side and give a few big coughs, ( on side) or have a steamy bathroom for 10 minutes it is great too after these excersises. Sandy. Then a cup of spud juice. >From: BCSCOFFMAN@... >Reply-To: bronchiectasis >To: bronchiectasis >Subject: Re: upside -down >Date: Sun, 14 Nov 2004 17:42:31 EST > >Del...I usually cough up a little blood about every three months or so. Guest guest
Glad to hear you know the Kondari well, its still a great place and they look after my needs, I live 5 minutes away by car. I used to supply cold water to the athletes on the esplanade during those triathlons when I first moved to Hervey Bay 1986 and for the next few years. Do you remember Ron Acutt, O h well hope the blood goes away ASAP, have you tried the potato water, it helps a lot with that type of bleed.
