This may be a crazy question but several weeks ago my feet have started to

really hurt-- my toes. Last night I noticed that my toes are starting to

overlap each other-- almost as if they are too crowded and the left big toe has

really shifted left. I've always been careful with my shoes not being too

tight but do I need to go see a podiatrist or something? I did not know if

this

is because I'm almost fifty or if its part of the disease?

Thanks

i would ask both podiatrist and rheumi!!! feet can hurt really bad. my feet

used to hurt so bad i'd want to cut them off. boy am i glad i didn't!!! i am

trying to figure out where to go for my problems!!! Saturday i was woken from

sleep with a spasm in my right calve. i fly out of bed and can hardly stand.

my left foot was in pain. my right leg spasm had my leg like a ballerina. i

kept falling on to my bed 3-4 times. finally i was able to break the spasm and

put my leg down to walk to the kitchen to get a soma and went back to bed. i

left my house twice this weekend.last night i was still using my countertops

to hold me up at first. wasn't sure what brought that on. my diet has not

been as healthy since my son moved back home. we have been eating very cheaply

(hot dogs, fish sticks, mac & cheese) so i ate an orange to give me potassium

and i started working out again. don't know why that stopped when my son came

home. i was able to work today and i feel a little better, almost thought

about mowing the grass. but i think i've talked myself out of that now. made a

chiro visit thursday, but i know he will work me in if i need it sooner.

Mine are like that my doctor calls it clawing of the toes, I don't think you

can help it I am careful with my shoes as well it is my feet and hands that

trouble me the most although my knees have started. I am thinking about

asking my GP for a steroid injection just to make me feel a bit better.

I'm sorry to say it is part of the disease. Your toes can curl and

stiffen in positions called claw toe or hammer toe.

Here are some websites that explain it:

http://www.podiatrychannel.com/hammertoes/

http://www.foot.com/info/cond_clawtoes.jsp

A podiatrist may help you find ways to minimize the damage. You should

also discuss it with your rheumy.

Kathy, I know what you are talking about all to well. I have had the

same problem for 2yrs. At this time I'm going to a phyical

therapist(?) He has told me the pain in the heel is called

Plantar fasciitis. I have never had anything hurt me in this way and

I had my son w/no meds at all. I've not been able to were a pair of

shoes w/the back in 2yrs due to a Achilles rupture. And the way I hae

had to walk is what has caused the heel pain. Therapy is working and

will be a long hard road to get back the use of my foot.

Here is a web site to go to and look at Plantar Fasciitis and

Achilles Tendinitis. Hope this is helpful let me know what you find

out . Truly hope things get better soon. Tammy

Hi :

Yes I too have foot problems. Swelling! I went to a podiatrist and he

told me my arches were falling. I spent $150 on special arch supports

to fit in my shoes. Didn't help. My rhumey says it's not an RA

problem. I don't agree with her. When I'm having a flare up it's

worse. When the flare is over ........ so it my swollen feet.

hmmmmmmmm :) I hobble to the rest room during the night if I have to

get up. I think it's part of the package. If not what is it? Doc's

don't seem to care. They keep passing the buck. But why? I end up

feeling sorry for them!!

Hi Kathy,

I to have a lot of pain in my feet. Mostly the toes and the ball

of the foot. It hurts to walk without shoes and socks. I went to a

podiatrist a few years ago. He did some minor surgery to fix some bones

and he gave me orthotics made just for my feet. They took a mold of my

feet with some casting materials. He also told me to get New Balance

tennis shoes. Now I can walk in my shoes just fine with very little

pain. I still can't walk bare footed even in the house but what a

difference. I still go back to him when I get a flare because he will

give me shots of cortisone in my feet. The shots will take the swelling

down. Hope you get some relief soon. Betty

I wear orthotics in my shoes, too so I don't go barefoot much. Also

prefer New Balance shoes since they fit me better. Lately my feet have

been aching much often. Not overly painful but very tired feeling.

Constant tingling, too. So trying to keep my feet up as much as

possible.
