Guest guest
snip<The only time it has lasted this long was prior to when I had a cervical spinal fusion. On C5-6. I have arthritis and degenerative spine disease. I still have a bad spot that they said would need to be fixed. Due to the fact that all my symptoms, pain, insomnia, brain fog, etc got better after that I am toying with going to a surgeon to see about this other disc being fused. Anyone with a similar experience? > Yes , you have described me to a tee. I had a cervical fusion in June 2002. At that time, the doctor told me I would need one later at the next level, but it wasn't bad enough at the time to do it. I also had a lumbar laminectomy last year and the pain that was supposed to resolve has never been resolved, so I may need another lumbar surgery as well. Although a lot of these symptoms overlap, they are two separate issues. I think being in mind bending pain with the spinal problems can bring on a flare, but I don't think they are related because one has to do with the spine and the fibro has so many other components. This is just my opinion, but I hope it helps. My fibro was brought on by a traumatic fall at work in which I also incurred the spinal injuries. Only your neurosurgeon can tell you if it is time for the other fusion. healing hugs, Sundra

Guest guest
Hi Sundra I have heard of Chiari malformation but I have heard that lots of people who suffer with degenerative disc disease in the Cervial area. But maybe that was incorrect. Thanks for all your help. /Spinal Fusion for Fibro < I know that I have read several places that Lots of people who have Cervical disc problems Also have Fibro. But can not find where it is actually discussed any where. 3 years ago, I was in bed 3 months before I had my fusion. After that I did much better with the Fibro symptons. With Flare ups only every 2-3 months. What was your experience with your Fibro after surgery?> I didn't have any relief from the fibro with surgery, but of course I had some problems after my surgery. I've heard of the cervical/fibro connection and I believe what you are referring to is the Chiari malformation. I searched and found this link if you want to read some of the links contained in it. I think I may do some reading there myself. http://www3.sympatico ca/ejfs/chiari0fmscfs.html You have to understand though that I have lumbar problems as well and so I have been in a great deal of pain with that for two years and that could also be another fibro trigger for me as well. It seems like my fibro symptoms have steadily gotten worse. I haven't had any reprieve thus far since diagnosis which was not long after my accident. Hope this helps you and gives you the info you are looking for. hugs, Sundra
