It is difficult to distinguish between a fairytale and a myth. If for eg your goddess were Aphrodite then your unconscious could be one of a number within her stories- as an eg take 'Narcissus.' Then the fairytale would be Snow White and the Seven dwarfs.....The wicked stepmother acts out her narcissi and tries to murder her own `true' inner self- thus the shadow or unconscious you speak of... but sure! Keep it brief! . PS- Why do you ask questions about which you already know the answers?
Guest guest
Dear Alice, It is a constant surprise to me how out of step I am with much that seems important. I have read all the myths, and even fairytales early on. I have even read Jungian books on the subjects, but never have I interiorized any of it. The same with most astrology. I only tried the I Ching a few times because my analyst wanted me to play with it. I get stuck on that large huge fat book on the Tarot but I soldier on. I do not deny that those things were important to Jung or "Jungian thinking"....I was just never drawn to self understanding by those subjects...except when you explained my chart to me. I don't know why...great literature has always had an effect, but the gods and goddesses? no. And fairytales scared me when I was little. If I am going to study psychology, I prefer it straight out. I am getting a little better, but still I am our in left field. I guess i want to grab the here and now, and often the history of human beings. What is the matter with me? I think I understand Jung after all these years at least some. My imagination seems to be on a different track.??? ( I am glad however that my analyst had all that training and she used it as examples at least occasionally. Answ to 1] The inferior function. 2] Fairy tales that have three sons or daughters n one idiotic or foolish nincompoop. The 3 others fail for diff reasons n the 'inferior one' wins by being wise in an unexpected way. 3] Myths involve gods n goddesses; fairytales, human n magical archetypes. The first all mortal myth came in Age of Aries: n Golden Fleece. The key to archetypal content in fairytales = "once upon a time" = always or now or true of the psyche. Love ao ps The bit ab neg side of gods etc. is true of ev archetypal process - spot on! There are solar heroes - Sun mortal heroes - Mars, symbol n astrol speaking
