Depression can be so devastating, and not just to the sufferer. I hope and pray she finds her way out of it soon, and back to feeling up to facing life. As moms we just feel so helpless when our kids suffer like this, and we can only support them through it. Wish we could just wave a magic wand and make things all better. Your daughter is lucky, though, to have a caring and understanding mother to lean on. Is there someone higher up you can talk to about your sister's kids, since the officials you are dealing with don't want to do anything? Is there a government official you can contact? Usually I would say go to the press, but since it is family, I know you want to avoid that. It is a pity that children end up suffering because the people who are supposed to protect them don't have the backbone to do their jobs. Sorry, there goes my big mouth again. Being a survivor myself, I just really get steamed when kids are being hurt. Somewhere in all this turmoil, don't forget to take some time for you and Joy -- keep your own cup full, ok.
