Guest guest
or Harry, What about some of the carb blocking pills available? I have gotten several ads over the internet for products claiming to block out carbs and sugar. What do they really do? The Ancient One... Guest guest
I am not sure of what you are talking about. Some supplements are touted as being carb blockers, but in actuality they mostly delay the metabolism of carbohydrates. You can get a similar effect called the chinese restaurant effect by consuming large quantities of fat along with your carb intake. Fat seems to delay the metabolism of carbs, such as to cause the carbs to be delayed for later metabolism causing a spike a lot later in your glucose levels. On the other hand some pharmaseutical drugs like Macformin or glucophage and maybe even glucovance, I am not sure about this latter one, inhibit the liver's ability to transform carbohydrates into glucose or it slows down the process considerably. If a person can tollerate glucophage, then it can not only be used for diabetes control, but it can be used as an effective weight reduction drug. Glucovance may be similar to glucophage, but I would have to check it out. Re: wayne message for you > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Dear and Wayne, > > > > > > > Love is not a feeling. Guest guest
really, that is for folks who want to eat a dozen twinkies and not cut down any of the carbs. Mostly they bind the carbs to gas and you have to pass the gas. I had an endo try to give me a prescription for that 5 years ago and told me to just leave the room, pass gas, and come back in and enjoy your company after dinner. said no thanks, I'll just cut my carbs bac since that means less gas adn I don't have to spend money on the medication smile Regards, Re: wayne message for you > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Dear and Wayne, > > > > > > > Love is not a feeling. Guest guest
A warning to those using humalog... high fat/high carb foods are lethal and you will pass out from eatig them. I.E eat 3 pieces of pizza, dose 30 units of humalog to cover the carbs, 2 hours later the humalog is peeking and the fat is still being digested and the carbs haven't even started... bye bye nice knowing you. Can't tell you how many type 1 or type 2 diabetics using humalog have passed out and off to the hospital from eating pizza or chinese or any food that is high fat/high carb which those foods give you the " pizza effect " . If you hear anyone saying that food has the pizza effect, avoid it and don't eat it. The two most common ones are pizza and chinese food.
